Do Democrats really believe they’ll accomplish anything by holding Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress? Is there fruit at the end of the ordeal they’ll put themselves through by sending subpoenas to everyone in the White House about everything President Trump has ever touched? Will the seeing the unredacted Mueller report deliver them the golden goose they need to protect the country and advance their agenda?
No, no, and no. As I noted the other day, this is all one big smokescreen. They don’t want to talk about the economy because they sound foolish to anyone who has seen the numbers. But more importantly, they don’t want anyone to see the growing dangers and unsustainable crisis that’s happening at the southern border. This is the biggest reason they’re trying so desperately to redirect all attention towards subpoenas, contempt hearings, the Mueller report, and further investigations of the President. The moment they stop making fools of themselves with their political antics is the moment mainstream media will turn its attention to the border crisis.
The worst thing that can happen to Democrats is for more people to see how bad the problem is getting. April yielded the highest number of apprehended illegal immigrants the nation has seen since the Bush administration. And while I’m usually the first to point out the GOP didn’t do what it should have done when they had the power, the current iteration of ignoring the problem rests solely with the Democrats.
The problem isn’t just the lack of a wall. It isn’t even the lack of resources and manpower for Border Patrol. The biggest problem is the loopholes that currently empower illegal immigrants to come and stay in the United States indefinitely. No, they’re not supposed to stay indefinitely, but that’s what’s happening which is why they have hope. That’s why they keep coming. That’s why the flow is getting worse, not better.
Border Patrol is trying to sound the alarm, just as they’ve been doing for a while.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection apprehended 109,144 migrants in April. That is more than 5,400 over the total in the month of March, and it is the highest monthly total since 2007.
The chief of the Border Patrol, Carla Provost, told a Senate Judiciary panel that “our apprehension numbers are off the charts.”
“We cannot address this crisis by shifting more resources. It’s like holding a bucket under a faucet. It doesn’t matter how many buckets you give me if we can’t turn off the flow,” she said.
The Democrats know with a certainty they can accomplish nothing with their subpoenas, contempt votes, and investigations. They don’t care. As long as the media isn’t looking at the border, they’re accomplishing their mission.
