ICE to allow local law enforcement to help them with illegal immigrants

When a problem gets too big for any individual or organization to handle, it behooves them to ask for help. That’s exactly what Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is doing in their latest move to empower local law enforcement in their mission to capture and detail criminal illegal immigrants.

The move, intended as a workaround in sanctuary cities, is one that is drawing criticism from the left. But ICE stands by their move.

“Policies that limit cooperation with ICE undermine public safety, prevent the agency from executing its federally mandated mission and increase the risks for officers forced to make at-large arrests in unsecure locations,” Acting ICE Director Matthew Albence said in a statement.

Opinion

This will come down to individual officers and departments deciding whether the want to do the bidding of their local politicians or if they want to defend their communities. It should be a no-brainer, but in recent years even the apolitical arena of law enforcement has been infiltrated by leftist political motivations.

Thankfully, many if not most law enforcement officers and departments recognize the need to keep their communities safe as a higher priority than obeying their progressive political leaders.

ICE and CBP need help. The federal government is being held back by the leftist mentality that doesn’t even acknowledge the crisis exists. Turning to local law enforcement is a smart and necessary move.

Final Thoughts

The struggle between the right’s attempts to stop illegal immigration and the left’s efforts to keep the flow going strong is bringing in new players. Will local law enforcement generally react well to this move? My money is on “yes.”
