As Biden takes huge lead in latest poll will radical progressives pull back on the reins

It isn’t often I get to point to the possibility that our EIC was wrong. It’s not that he’s never wrong, but he’s usually quick to admit it. On the issue of the left-turn most Democrats other than frontrunner Joe Biden seem to be taking, he’s sticking to his guns and I believe he’s wrong.

His contention is that Biden will lurch to the left to try to match the other Democratic candidates who better represent the primary-voting radical base of the party. I’ve always said Biden will say the word “progressive” a lot but will not embrace such radical ideas like Medicare-for-All or the Green New Deal. So far, I’m the winner of this particular chicken dinner.

Biden claims he ‘doesn’t have time’ to give details on his healthcare plan

Throughout his tour of Iowa and South Carolina, Biden has repeatedly stressed how healthcare is now a “human right” and that he will help finish the job of Obamacare by creating the ability for Americans to buy into Medicare instead of relying on private health insurance.

In South Carolina, Biden spoke again about a Medicare buy-in program, but declined to point to a specific bill. He said in Iowa City last week: “I don’t have time; I don’t want to keep you standing any longer.”

Some might say his more moderate language is designed to separate himself from Bernie Sanders, but I’m not hearing that in the language. Apparently, neither are voters based on the latest poll that shows him with a monster lead over the rest of the field.

Biden takes 32-point lead over Sanders in new 2020 poll

Former Vice President Joe Biden has a 32-point lead in the Democratic presidential race in a Hill-HarrisX poll released Monday.

Biden won 46 percent in the poll compared to 14 percent for Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who came in a distant second place.

Is this a sign that the other candidates will see the writing on the wall and stop being so radical? We’ll see.

There’s still plenty of time for Biden to fall, to lurch to the left, or both. But so far the message from likely voters says they’re not ready to embrace the radical progressivism being pushed by nearly every Democratic candidate.
