As the latest round of rockets fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel broke the 400-mark in less than 24-hours, many mainstream media outlets focused their reporting on a 1-year-old and her pregnant mother who were allegedly victims of the Israeli retaliatory airstrikes. Now, further investigation has revealed the deaths came as a result of a misfired Hamas rocket that landed short of its target, landing in the Gaza Strip instead.
Yesterday, Palestinian weapons caused the tragic death of a mother in Gaza and her baby. Hamas blamed Israel. Journalists amplified the lie. Our assessment indicates that the incident had nothing to do with IDF strikes.

NEW: Israeli military says the mother and baby killed in Gaza yesterday were killed by a misfired Palestinian rocket, not an Israeli air strike.
"We can now confirm that they were killed by accident as a result of Hamas fire," an IDF spokesman says.

According to the Israel Defense Forces’ Arabic-language spokesman, Maj. Avichay Adraee:
“There are more and more indications reaching us from the Gaza Strip that put serious doubt on the truth of the statement from Hamas’s healthy ministry about the death of the baby Saba Mahmoud Hamdan Abu Arar and her mother Falastin Saleh Abu Arar,” Adraee wrote in a tweet.
“According to these indications, the death was caused by terrorist activities by Palestinian militants and not by an Israeli strike,” he said.

A video of the baby’s body was played on Gaza television indicating the deaths were a result of Israel’s counterstrike. But the area where they were killed was not targeted by Israel.
Terrible and heartbreaking!
Hamas claimed that IDF air strikes killed an infant and her mother but early investigation from the IDF shows that they were killed by a rocket which accidentally landed within Gaza.A senseless tragedy which Hamas inflicts on its own people. pic.twitter.com/NiWYiNjyWO

Several major news agencies, including CNN, Aljazeera, NBC, BBC, MSNBC, and Reuters have focused their reporting on the deaths and blamed them on Israel. Twelve hours after the contradictory report from the IDF and evidence that the deaths were caused by Hamas rockets was revealed, none of these outlets have edited or recanted their reports.
They all still lay the blame on Israel.
As noted earlier, be careful what you read about the attacks as mainstream media continues to push the Israeli-aggressors narrative. Even in the face of stark contradictions, they continue to report what they want people to hear, not the truth.
