The common elements of socialism tie it to the past and present while showing why it always fails with horrific results.
One would think that after 400 years of failure, the champions of the colossal fraud of socialism would have at least come up with a new song and dance to sell their scam to a new generation. But alas, it’s the same old boring sales pitch and talking points. It’s akin to a used car dealer named Bob Francis O’Rourke being run out-of-town, coming back as Beto O’Rourke and expecting that no one would notice.
The Left’s usual propaganda onslaught will often bring forth examples of opinion pieces disguised as ‘news’ stories. The nation’s socialists and national media – but we repeat ourselves – quite often engage in the practice of the ‘debunking’ genre. This is a piece designed to convince people that the latest failure of the Left’s base ideology wasn’t really a failure of the Left’s base ideology. These usually begin with ever clever ‘Editorial in a single headline’ and go downhill from there. After the deceptive practice of ‘Burying the Lede’ the purveyors of these pieces will finally get down to trying to disprove basic reality.
One of the most recent examples from the New York Times that was long on verbosity and short on actual argument. Perhaps it is a good sign that they can’t come up with anything better than the tired, old and still irrelevant ‘North Korea’ talking point:
It may be amusing to hear Republicans assert that a military kleptocracy like Venezuela is a socialist country because its government uses that word when lying about itself (rather in the way that North Korea claims to be a people’s democratic republic).
[Our emphasis]
If that sounds like the same tired old talking point to try to ‘prove’ the Nazis weren’t Far-Left socialists, you would be correct. It should also be noted that the purveyor of the piece tried going to the ‘that wasn’t really socialism’ well once again in this passage:
It may make one wince to see Senator Bernie Sanders obliged (as he was on Monday at a town hall hosted by CNN) to explain once more that the totalitarian statism of the Soviet Union had nothing to do with the (far older) tradition of democratic socialist thought.
Please note that stripped of all its linguistic legerdemain, all of this devolves down to falsehoods and basic denial of reality. There are far more substantive factual arguments than the mere name of these socialist organisations. Moreover, since these same talking points and tactics are once again being employed in trying to sell the swindle of socialism while it’s colossally failing in the socialist nation of Venezuela. We will identify several of the commonalities of collectivism in proving that it’s always the same socialism with it taking place on a different day.
Collectivist commonalities that disprove the ‘That wasn’t really socialism’ lie.
- Authoritarian aliases of the Left – socialist, communist, collectivist, fascist, statist, etc.
- Unbelievable promises of a perfect ‘Utopian’ society.
- False assertions that this time around their base ideology will actually work.
- Wealth redistribution – Incredible assurances of free stuff paid for with other people’s money.
- Advocacy for direct democracy – until the socialists have the power.
- Liberty control – the Deprivation of the right of self-defense.
- Controls over free-speech and censorship
- Modern Monetary Theory [MMT] – printing money to pay for all the goodies.
- Nationalization of the economy – expansion of government.
- Authoritarian rule when the promises go unfulfilled and the people become restless
1. Authoritarian aliases of the Left – socialist, communist, collectivist, fascist, statist, etc.
It should go without saying that Leftists are closely associated with socialism or it’s more than 40 aliases. This is why they incessantly repeat the tired, old and ever-irrelevant ‘North Korea’ line. In the previously cited case the author didn’t want to go to the well too often, applying that falsehood to the USSR by implication.
As night follows day, as soon as collectivist systems collapses, Leftist damage control shifts into high gear. This has several purposes beginning with of course with ‘that wasn’t really socialism’ line of bovine excrement. This is closely related to the attempted absolution of the Left to Leftist ideology, followed by the third phase, the perpetration of the lie that certain Leftists were somehow ‘right-wing’ as in the case of the Far-Left Nazis.
In the present example, the ruling party of the nation of Venezuela is clearly socialist, as is the admitted ideology of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ‘the future of the’ Democratic National Committee or one of the front-runners admitted socialist Bernie Sanders. This aspect of the Left is the most damaging for them, since it clearly sets forth their base ideology.
2. Unbelievable promises of a perfect ‘Utopian’ society.
Back before the Left amassed a string of failures of it’s base ideology, they could at least try to promise a ‘heaven on earth’. It was supposed to be an ‘Ideal state’ as Plato termed it 2,400 years ago, or a ‘Utopia’ as Sir Thomas More put forward in his seminal work of the same name 500 years ago.
These days, the 400 years of failure have tarnished that ideal to put it mildly, with only the Totalitarian Ten Percent of the Far-Left buying into that failed sales pitch. The best they can offer is that it somehow won’t such as badly as what it’s supposed to replace: Economic Liberty.
Obviously, the Utopian reputation of socialism has been badly damaged – thus the reason for articles replete with the ‘that wasn’t really socialism’ lines. Thus their fall back position that this time it’ll be different.
3. False assertions that this time around their failed base ideology will actually work.
This line of excreta goes along with other Leftist lies on the subject. Part of the purpose of this discussion is to prove that the basic precepts of socialism make it doomed to failure. That there is no way that socialism [or one of it’s over 40 aliases] can actually work. An inherently flawed system can never work no matter how many times it ‘hasn’t been tried’.
4. Wealth redistribution – Incredible assurances of free stuff paid for with other people’s money.
At it’s core, socialism is based on wealth redistribution or the placing of the results of ones labour in a common store as postulated in the book ‘Utopia’. Despite his being very late to the collectivist confab, the line from Karl Marx did set this out succinctly as ‘From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.’
This one line lays out the precepts of collectivism – as well as why it fails every time. One can only redistribute wealth with the threat of force, thus the Liberty and the right of self-defense of the people has to be eliminated. It also presupposes the promises of free stuff paid for with other people’s money.
Wealth redistribution demotivates the productive while incentivising the unproductive and the system falls apart. This fundamental flaw is endemic to every collectivist system and why it can never work no matter who is in charge or their ‘good intentions’.
5. Advocacy of direct democracy – until the socialists have the power.
We’re seeing this with the nation’s Socialist-Left pushes for the abolishment of the Electoral College. In other nations, the Socialist-Left has used democratic means to attain power, after which they never give it up as in Venezuela. As the saying goes: You Can Vote Your Way Into Socialism, But You Have To Shoot Your Way Out.

6. Liberty control – the Deprivation of the right of self-defense.
Since socialism is predicated on the forceful redistribution of wealth, these systems cannot abide the people have the common sense human right of self-defense. When the government is based on a monopoly on the use of force, it must confiscate all firearms. This took place in the Leftist nations of the USSR, Nazi Germany, Venezuela and of course this is being pushed in the states. With over 70 instances of the Left demanding gun confiscation.
7. Controls over free-speech and censorship.
This was seen in Far-Left Nazi Germany and alarmingly in the states at present. It should be an object lesson from #Operacionlibertad that the national socialist government of Venezuela shut down the media in the country to keep tight controls on what the people could see or the viewpoints they could express. As is now increasingly becoming the case with Facebook and other ‘socialist’ media.
8. Modern monetary theory [MMT] – printing money to pay for all the goodies.
This is one of the other methods in coming up with the money to buy the loyalty of the people. Simply print money to bribe the people in voting for the slavery of socialism. This was done in Venezuela to the point that people simply weighed stacks of almost worthless currency to determine it’s value.
Bernie’s Senior Economic Advisor Sees No Problem in Printing Unlimited Money she wants to use Modern Monetary Theory [MMT] to do the same, drastically devaluing the value of everyone’s money in the process.
9. Nationalization of the economy – expansion of government.
Again, we are looking at the common elements of failed socialist systems of the past to directly tie them to the nation’s Socialist-Left in the states. This means the nationalization of the health care system with ‘single payer’ or ‘Medicare for all’ among other schemes, just as was done in other failed collectivist systems.
Nationalization of the economy would require expansion of the government bureaucracy as well as it’s power over the people as took place in other socialist nations.
10. Authoritarian rule when the promises go unfulfilled and the people become restless.
The problem with all of the fantastic promises of free-healthcare, free college, free housing, free food, free vacations and of course, free money is that there aren’t any means to pay for it all. There is only so much pixie dust, rainbows and unicorn droppings. Soon enough the demotivating effects of wealth redistribution will take it’s toll on the productive making the situation far worse.
This is when the government has to start clamping down on dissent in addition to the confiscating guns and controlling the media. As is taking place in Venezuela and other socialist nations, secret police will soon start arresting dissidents, so this is something we can look forward to if the rest of this list comes to fruition.
The takeaway.
Thus we have proven that failed socialist regimes of the past are directly tied to the precepts of the Left’s base ideology. There are specific items that prove this to be the case, not matter how much the Left would like to deny reality.
These Items were present in other collectivist failures and they are part and parcel of the Left’s socialist national agenda. It is all socialism, and it is all doomed to failure unless we banish that horrid ideology forever from the list of governmental formulations.
