Discern Report is the fastest growing America First news aggregator in the nation.
I have a terrible confession to make. When the Mueller investigation into Russian hacking got rolling and early revelations pointed towards potential contacts between Russia and the Trump campaign, I expected they would find something damaging on the President. I doubted it would be collusion or anything with illegal intent, but because there were so many technical missteps by the campaign during the short-lived reign of Paul Manafort as campaign chief, I figured someone did something stupid.
They would find something politically damaging but not criminal. That was my expectation.
When the report was released, I let out a sigh of relief (as EVERY American should have when we heard the great news that the President of the United States had not remotely colluded with a foreign entity). I assumed the Democrats would make a fuss, but they’d see the writing on the wall, take the hit, and change the subject.
That would have been the smart move. But I underestimated the political capital they’d put into the collusion narrative. I also, apparently, underestimated their stupidity.
Now, they’re going after Attorney General William Barr. Their premise for going after him is to receive an unredacted Mueller report. They’re threatening to hold him in contempt of Congress if he doesn’t supply it. And when they don’t get it, they’ll likely find something or someone else to go after pertaining to the report.
This, folks, is jumping the shark. The hyper-political citizens on the left are pushing for it, too. But the general American public has heard what they needed to hear. This was like a long, drawn-out exercise in futility with no payoff. It’s like the opening of Al Capone’s vault, but instead of wasting hours of America’s time, it’s wasted over two years. And it’s still going.
It’s still going.
They’re taking their losing bet and doubling down in an effort to accomplish three goals. These goals aren’t truly achievable save one, but someone made the call that this is their narrative and they’re having a difficult times coming to grips with the fact that it’s not working. Perhaps the hyper-leftists driving the party now are telling them to do it. Perhaps this is a way for them to hide from the hyper-leftists. It’s hard to tell, like trying to make sense of a maniac’s rantings.
Nevertheless, here are their “goals” today:
- Keep hammering the narrative, knowing mainstream media will mostly parrot them even though they, too, are seeing the writing on the wall
- Find a secondary victory – such as hanging an albatross on Barr’s neck – that they can take with them into 2020 election season as a “win”
- Distract the people, especially their base, while they weigh their choices of the next “take down Trump” adventure to go on
It’s very possible their actual goal in this whole Barr debacle is to continue to do something, anything that prevents them from actually doing their job of passing legislation. It may sound counterintuitive for a party in charge of the House to want to avoid passing legislation, but they’re in a counterintuitive situation. They have a majority, but they don’t have control within their own caucus. Any legislation they try to pass will be met with objections from one side of their party or the other. This isn’t a new phenomenon; the GOP has been trying to reconcile with the likes of the House Freedom Caucus for years. But Democrats aren’t handling it well because they’ve put so much emphasis on unity within a party that is clearly divided.
Every moderate piece of legislation they try to pass will be met with scorn by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and her merry band of Justice Democrats pawns.
If they lurch to the left to appease the new radical progressives, they risk getting called out by Republicans for being radical progressives in need of pink slips next year.
The best narrative they have going for them is contempt for Trump. This is the biggest reason they continue to focus on efforts to take him down instead of trying to do things that will lift the country. Without that narrative, they’ll be forced to expose either their lack of unity or the far-left nature of the new Democratic Party. Neither makes any political sense with presidential election season ramping up.
Winston Churchill said, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” The Democrats seem bent on taking his advice with a caveat. If they must go through hell, they’re going to drag as many Americans as they can down with them.
