When the story broke about a Medium post by a man claiming to have been sexually assaulted by South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, I checked it out. It would be big news if true, not just because it’s a sexual assault allegation against a politician but because it was against someone I believe to be the biggest potential threat to President Trump in 2020.
When I read it, I shrugged it off. It sounded fishy. It offered no details, no corroboration. Then, I saw who was pushing the story. I instantly filed it under “fake news until proven otherwise.”
The person pushing it was Jacob Wohl. The publication he was pushing it from is Big League Politics, which has had some great scoops but has also missed. This was a miss, but they quickly fixed it as all good news outlets should. I don’t blame them at all, but if accusations are true that Wohl and his partner-in-fake-news Jack Burkman “set up” Hunter Kelly in an attempt to take down Buttigieg, then I do blame them.
Stick to the truth
Do you know who uses fabrications, manipulations, propaganda, and lies to promote their agenda? Those who do not have truth on their side. Conservatives are blessed with the truth. Our policies are proven and yield better results. Our values are higher and are not as tainted as the left’s because we are less likely to be swayed by outside forces. Our ethical standards are stronger because we have the benefit of reality backing us instead of the often-fanciful ethical grounds upon which the left stands.
Our foundation is built on solid ground. Much of the progressive ideology is built on ever-shifting sand and held together by the mud they like to sling. We need to stick with that. This foundation of truth and effectiveness is what allows us to see under the surface when seemingly compassionate ideas like Medicare-for-All or the Green New Deal rear their ugly heads. We know that “free” education is neither free nor educational.
In other words, we have no need to try to take down people like Pete Buttigieg with fabrications. Our policies versus his policies, head-to-head, is a match that we can win as long as we keep the high ground. When attempts are made to use leftist tactics, we always get caught. We’re just not very good at lying, nor do we have a need for it.
If it is demonstrated that “right-wing” provocateurs Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman “set up” Hunter Kelly to attack Pete Buttigieg, it’s time for every conservative to acknowledge these two do much more harm than any perceived good they deliver.
