The key to border security is eliminating incentive

The key to border security is eliminating incentive

Border enforcement must continue to be enhanced. We need more Border Patrol Agents and more Customs and Border Protection Officers. Money should be taken away from foreign aid which is just giving money to people who hate us more often than not.

In your family budget, you provide for the necessities first. You make sure the mortgage is paid on time so you and your family have a place to live and you don’t destroy your credit rating. You spend what you need to on food and clothing and school supplies.

But you postpone that cruise to the South Pacific until you can better afford it. You’ll save those incredible ocean vistas and tropical sunsets for another day. Paying the bills and making ends meet comes first.

This is the concept of deferred gratification. Unfortunately we have not yet learned it in managing our national economy as we have in our own individual homes.

We need to spend what we need to spend to secure our border. But that is not a total solution. Human traffickers and drug smugglers and potential terrorists will continue to overwhelm our border as long as they think they have a high rate of success.

The problem with drug abuse in this country is that where there is demand, there will be supply. Since the opium poppies and the coca leaves grow in other countries, that means that their derivatives will being smuggled into this country.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration [DEA] priorities include assisting other nations in eradication of these illicit crops. Then Department of Homeland Security is responsible for enforcement to interdict smuggling of contraband at our border. But we are still missing the most important aspect of stopping this flow of harmful substances into our heartland to destroy our children.

The same situation exists with those who seek to illegally enter our country and disrespect our national sovereignty. No matter how much enforcement we put on the border, no matter how many walls we build, they will seek to evade or overwhelm.

We really need to determine when we will deal with this as an invasion. But we will never have U.S. Marines shooting everybody who crosses the Rio Grande illegally. So that’s not a realistic alternative.

To secure our border, we must reduce incentive. As long as Democrat politicians mischaracterize the invaders as victims rather than perpetrators, that will not happen. When demagogues ask why we are separating children from their parents, they should be asking why are irresponsible parents putting their vulnerable children into that situation in the first place.

Any pathway to citizenship sends the wrong message. Even the realization that they will be allowed to remain legally at some point will just increase those who come here the wrong way. Only if they know they will be repelled at the border and not allowed in will they not bother coming at all.

An example of a legitimate refugee is a Christian such as Asia Bibi who is persecuted by the Islamic government of her own country Pakistan. Those who just don’t like the living conditions in Central America do not qualify.

The U.S. Congress should amend all statutes to ensure that anyone who enters other than at a legal Port of Entry will be immediately sent back across the border. No processing, not anything. Just escort them back to the border and watch them cross back into Mexico or Canada.

If either of those countries does not cooperate, then our entire bilateral relationship with each must be re-evaluated. We need strong leaders. But the legislative branch is populated mostly by wimps and self-serving opportunists. Unless we elect better Senators and Representatives, this national crisis will never be resolved.

The root of our problem is the moral decay of America. As long as we ignore the spiritual emptiness of so many of our citizens, they will escape from the meaninglessness of their world through illicit drugs.

If we do not avail ourselves of the opportunity to create a decent society, we will be ruled by people of no core values who will do or say whatever will keep them in office. We can offer border solutions till we’re blue in the face. But until we put out the unwelcome mat for all those who jump the immigration queue, it will all be talk and nothing else.

Appeasement is always seen as a sign of weakness. That was the case with Adolf Hitler and Neville Chamberlain. That is the case with Islamic terrorists who seek our destruction. This also applies to the hordes of people poised to rush our border.

Only our superior strength is a deterrent. Strength is moral as well as physical. Our Founders attributed our national well-being to Divine Providence. Our only hope is to rediscover those values that have sustained us and to elect only those men and women who will act upon them.

Trump: ‘Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens’

Trump Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens

One of the promises the President made through much of the 2016 election season was deportation. His views shifted throughout the campaign as he acknowledged the difficulty of deporting tens of millions of illegal immigrants while simultaneously saying it needed to be done. Some have called this a broken promise since deportation numbers have not reached the levels many expected, but that may be changing very soon.

In two Tweets, the President said, “Next week ICE will begin the process of removing the millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States. They will be removed as fast as they come in. Mexico, using their strong immigration laws, is doing a very good job of stopping people long before they get to our Southern Border. Guatemala is getting ready to sign a Safe-Third Agreement. The only ones who won’t do anything are the Democrats in Congress. They must vote to get rid of the loopholes, and fix asylum! If so, Border Crisis will end quickly!”

In calling out the Democrats, the President referred to their continuous blocking of any actions that could actually help solve our border crisis, from the wall to border patrol resources to fixing the loopholes asylum seekers use to cross the border and get released to the interior while awaiting their hearing. As acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan noted last week, 90% of recent migrants haven’t shown up for their asylum hearings and were issued removal orders.

Are these the “illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States” the President was referencing? Though the numbers are high, they have not reached into the millions just yet. But combined with standing removal orders already on the books, the deportation potential does hit seven digits.

This was one of the few promises the President hadn’t kept yet, but it appears the deportation machine at ICE is getting ramped up. Finally. This is a great first step towards dissuading entry in the first place.

U.S. halts new aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras until steps are taken to end border crisis

US halts new aid to El Salvador Guatemala and Honduras until steps are taken to end border crisis

The State Department announced Monday the United States will discontinue sending new foreign aid to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras until the Central American nations take “concrete action” to curb the flow of illegal immigrants to our southern border.

“We completed a review, and previously awarded grants and contracts will continue with current funding,” said State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus. “State Department assistance in support of priorities of the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security priorities to help the Northern Triangle governments take actions that will protect the U.S. border and counter transnational organized crime will also continue.”

In March, President Trump said he would stop sending aid until they figure out how to do their part to stop the border crisis.

Ortagus continued, “We will not provide new funds for programs in those countries until we are satisfied the Northern Triangle governments are taking concrete actions to reduce the number of illegal migrants coming to the U.S. border.”

Jack Posobiec said, in one word, how this should make us all feel.

But, of course, I have a few more words than that. I’ve always acknowledged the border crisis must be handled on multiple fronts as past presidents have tried to strengthen security. But Trump is the first to try to force nations at the sources of the problem to get fixed. First, he negotiated with Mexico to do their part. Now, he’s asking the same from the Northern Triangle nations to do the same.

If the people have no reason to leave, they won’t. But as long as they are made to feel they need to come to America to have a normal life, they’ll continue to try to do so. It’s good that not all aid is being held back, as much of it is used to benefit us. But the threat of no new aid is big as all three nations rely on the United States to operate their own governments.

I couldn’t agree more with this sentiment…

Final Thoughts

It behooves these countries to do what they can to retain their citizens. With as much as 1/3rd of their populations claiming to want to come to America, these countries must do more to help themselves.

American citizens first: Why Ron DeSantis signed Florida sanctuary city ban

American citizens first Why Ron DeSantis signed Florida sanctuary city ban

The critics are already out in full force, many of whom are trying to legally attack the new sanctuary city law signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. But as the smoke clears from the signing of the law, the motives behind it are not being discussed by those who oppose it.

As the end of the day, it comes down to putting American citizens first, a notion that seems to be anathema to the left.

According to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, “It absolutely gives us the ability to partner with federal law enforcement agencies to make sure we’re doing everything we can to fight illegal immigration.”

In the response by the sheriff, we get to see the heart of the matter: partnership. Law enforcement has demonstrated time and time again when there’s cooperation, information sharing, trust, and coordination, the whole becomes greater than the sum of the parts. The bad guys want nothing more than for law enforcement agencies to stop working together. It makes it easier to evade capture and continue breaking the law when agencies in a sanctuary city defy orders from federal law enforcement, including ICE.

Critics argue that illegal immigrants are not the “bad guys,” but as I’ve covered on this site ad nauseum, there is no shortage of very bad people coming into our country illegally and continuing to do their deeds. Many of them have received protection from sanctuary cities. This must be put to an end.

The Governor invoked the standard talking points about the new law, but it really does come down to a compassionate appreciation of the plight of people who want to be in this country that is rightly superseded by the safety of American citizens.

Stopping sanctuary cities is not about punishing immigrants, as the Democrats like to claim. It’s about keeping American citizens, legal immigrants, and even most illegal immigrants safe from the criminal aliens living here.
