There have been few thinkers in the last 100 years quite as astute at understanding the way of people than Friedrich August von Hayek. This is ironic, of course, because his claim to fame is a classical liberal foundation for economic theory and practice. Few who haven’t studied him realize his expertise in philosophy makes him a grand interpreter of human nature.
Such is the case of a quote from his 1974 Nobel speech. It’s uncanny how his warning then acts as a prediction of what modern day radical progressivism, also known as hyper-leftism or the New Democratic Socialist Party, has become.
“To act on the belief that we possess the knowledge and the power which enable us to shape the processes of society entirely to our liking, knowledge which in fact we do not possess, is likely to make us do much harm.”
It’s time to consider the possibility, unthinkable as it was a decade ago, that America could actually lean towards crazy ideas like the Green New Deal, Medicare-for-All, or universal basic income. These concepts are suicidal for the nation.
