Meth mules arrested in desert near Tucson

Drugs are smuggled into the United States through multiple means. Some comes through ports of entry by land or see, which gives border patrol the easiest opportunity to thwart their efforts. But much of the drugs are brought over by foot or boat, entering the United States where there is no wall or protection against foreign incursion.

Border patrol announced a bust this week of just such a type of incursion. The smugglers were carrying bags of methamphetamine across the desert, far from a part of entry and from areas where there is no border wall separating the United States from Mexico.

Agents from the Tucson Sector Mobile Response Team (MRT) aboard a National Guard helicopter responded to a report of six men walking in a desert area frequently utilized by drug smugglers. MRT agents found and arrested six Mexican nationals illegally present in the United States, after a tracking operation with a K-9 team.

One of the men was carrying four packages of methamphetamine concealed in a cardboard box inside his backpack. A search of the immediate area resulted in the discovery of a two-way radio, a communication method commonly used by smuggling organizations.

My Take

One of the main narratives being pushed by the left against building a border wall is their claim that nearly all arrests of drug smugglers are made at ports of entry. While this is true, it’s not a very good way to support their case. Drug smugglers who do not use ports of entry are simply not captured as often because… wait for it… there’s no wall in so many areas and border patrol can’t comb the entire desert looking for them.

Drugs are being smuggled into the United States, and not only through ports of entry. Those who use vehicles to try to smuggle drugs in do so because the loads may be too big to carry on foot, but whether it comes in on truck full of hundreds of pounds of drugs through ports of entry or by foot with hundreds of mules crossing the border illegally where there’s no wall, it’s getting here nonetheless.

It’s ignorant to believe our success in sniffing out drugs in vehicles means the smugglers are going to give up, especially when transit across our porous borders is so easy. Walls aren’t just to prevent illegal immigrants. They’ll help stop crime.

Don’t let the left use the “port of entry drug bust” claim to confuse the issue. Not all smugglers are dumb enough to drive their drugs through ports of entry. Most of it’s coming through places where there’s no wall. Build the wall.

Border patrol spots drone used to help illegal immigrants breach the border

Border patrol spots drone used to help illegal immigrants breach the border

Human smuggling has gone high tech. At least it can be verified. At this point, it’s likely people have been using drone technology to assist in getting illegal immigrants across the border for a long time. It’s been used for drug trafficking as well, so thinking this is a new occurrence is likely erroneous.

But now we have proof-positive the efforts to get criminal illegal aliens across the border is a sophisticated operation.

Two of those apprehended were known gang members and one was a convicted sex offender, according to the Border Patrol. They now are being held in U.S. jails pending criminal prosecution.

Opinion

An under-reported challenge facing border patrol is the rise of criminal illegal immigrants crossing the border, sometimes not for the first time. We hear all about the groups of dozens or hundreds of migrants crossing the border and seeking to get apprehended so they can claim asylum and be released into the interior, but what about those who aren’t seeking asylum, who don’t want to be caught, and who are likely part of criminal elements?

Every border patrol agent who is tasked with processing paperwork for the migrants is a border patrol agent taken away from the necessary work of apprehending the criminals crossing over. This is why the use of drone technology is so discouraging. Right now, we have to rely on our technological prowess to cover much of the border. With the bad guys also using technology to thwart these efforts, it makes the already-difficult job of patrolling our border even more difficult and dangerous.

The left needs to understand that not everybody crossing over is just seeking a better honest life. Many are crossing the border for drugs, to join gangs, and even specifically to commit acts of violence against Americans. We need border patrol focusing on catching these bad guys, not serving paperwork to people who are unwilling to wait in line and enter the country legally.

Quote

“Approximately two minutes after the object returned back to Mexico for the third time, a group of 10 subjects made an illegal entry into the U.S. in the same area in which the object had been traveling. This is the first known time in recent history that a drone has been utilized as a ‘look-out’ in order to aid in illegal entries in the El Paso Sector.” – Border Patrol Statement

Final Thoughts

With so much time, money, and manpower used by border patrol to apprehend the migrants wanting to be caught, those who don’t want to get caught have the advantage. These are the dangerous elements not seeking asylum. They seek to do harm.

Trey Gowdy on the future of investigations in wake of Mueller report

Trey Gowdy on the future of investigations in wake of Mueller report

Former Congressman Trey Gowdy took to Fox News to talk to Martha MacCallum about the release of Robert Mueller’s report on Russian election interference from 2016. His interview was arguably the most impressive take on the release so far.

As MacCallum notes, the divide really started with the Bill Clinton impeachment. Lawmakers ran to their respective political party corners and one can argue they never returned to the middle to become a single Congress again.

As for Gowdy, he pointed out the unfortunate reality that the American people are going to have to suffer (and pay for) more investigations from Congress and other entities who are not and will never be satisfied with how the Mueller probe concluded.

But perhaps the biggest takeaway from Gowdy is his belief that former FBI Agent Peter Strzok should and will be investigated in the wake of the Mueller report. This is important because Gowdy has never been one who shied away from the Mueller investigation, nor did he believe it should be made public.

Watch this video. Gowdy is in rare form by giving the cold, hard truth while not playing partisan games. Best take of the investigation so far.

Border patrol nabs Mexican Mafia member ‘La Bestia’ crossing the border illegally

Border patrol nabs Mexican Mafia member La Bestia crossing the border illegally

A 29-year-old Mexican national was apprehended by border patrol trying to illegally cross over into the United States. The man, known as “La Bestia” or “The Beast,” had been previously convicted and deported for Obstruction or Retaliation.

He is a known member of the Mexican Mafia as well as the 18th Street Gang. Border patrol spotting him crossing the border nine miles west of the Calexico port of entry.

Opinion

On the surface, this might seem like minor news. But the left continuously screams that there is no reason for a border wall or increased security at the border. Their claims, led in large part by the politically charged rhetoric of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, are that the way to improve border security is to buff up the ports of entry.

Here’s the obvious problem with that. They’re correct in saying most apprehensions of criminals and smugglers happen at the ports of entry. But that’s not evidence of how the dangerous elements of illegal immigration move. It simply means the ones who are crossing the large swaths of unprotected border are harder to apprehend. Yes, a wall will work. Yes, increased resources and manpower for border security will work. Yes, improved technology will work. In conjunction with one another, these solutions will help to not only catch those who try to cross over illegally but will also dissuade many from even trying.

This is logical, yet the narrative is designed to make the President and the Republicans seem like fearmongers. It isn’t fearmongering when the threats are legitimate. At the border, they most certainly are.

Quote

“The continued vigilance of our agents led to the apprehension of this criminal. This dangerous man is off our streets and no longer a danger to the members of our community.” – Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim

Final Thoughts

As long as Democrats and leftist media push the narrative that the threats coming across the border illegally are minimal, they’re going to keep crossing. We have to take the threat seriously. The left must stop hiding behind political agendas.
