Interview with Christopher Shaw

Published

on

I was given the opportunity to interview Christopher Shaw. He is the director of the upcoming movie, Church PeopleChurch People is “romantic comedy satire” about a celebrity youth pastor caught up in the marketing machine of his mega church. In the interview, Christopher discusses the redemptive story arc involving what is a sad reality within churches today.

But the journey leading up to this movie was no cakewalk. Christopher’s start came from making Youtube videos. He then built a network of Christian comedians on Facebook, most notably the relationship between he and Thor Ramsay, the writer and star of Church People. They finally began their working relationship at the 168 Film Festival back in 2010. During this festival, they produced the short Skip Listening in a short period of time, the entire process taking no more than 18 days. Skip Listening won accolades at the festival and so the two have continued working together ever since.

As a Director, Christopher appreciates a high quality film. This was his critique of faith based movies, however he emphasized his optimism for how much the category has improved over the years. Passion of the Christ, he says was a breakthrough in closing this disparity. Since then, a number of faith-based films have proven to be remarkable returns on investment. As I pointed out in the interview, Christian comedy, remains rather untapped in its potential, which is a reason I sought to interview someone behind Church People.

Because this interview was for Startup Christ Presents, one of the goals of the interview is to tap their entrepreneurial wisdom. Christopher was not lacking for advice to give. The theme of the advice can be summarized by saying unless God is saying otherwise, start making content. Technology has increased the ease of entrance with film and distribution of content.

These are some of the highlights from the interview. You can watch, or rather listen, on youtube, and if you feel so inclined, subscribe to Christianity Visualized, a new channel I am working on. More to come on that later.

Washington Post op-ed links ‘The Lion King’ to fascism

Washington Post op-ed links The Lion King to fascism

As Disney animated movies hit their stride of awesomeness in the 1990s with Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King (and The Little Mermaid, though it was released in late 1989), I am among a minority who didn’t think The Lion King was the best of the batch. In fact, I thought it was behind the previous two, but that’s not a knock against the Hamlet-inspired tale of growth and revenge. It’s a testament to how good those movies were.

But as the historical revisionist left continues their attacks on culture and anything from the past that wasn’t 100% social justice warrior approved, it was inevitable that someone at the Washington Post would come out calling The Lion King a tale of fascist Nazis spreading racism in a non-socialistic society. After all, it’s about survival of the fittest, a class hierarchy, and the strong literally eating the weak.

Of course it’s bad in the eyes of progressives. It had a story and conflict and differences between people. These aren’t things the left appreciates or accepts.

In this video, Fox News host Martha MacCallum was joined by Michael Knowles and Richard Fowler to discuss he lunacy of classifying The Lion King as anything other than an entertaining kids’ story with some adult themes.

‘The Nevers’ director Joss Whedon goes unhinged and anti-Trump for 4th of July

The Nevers director Joss Whedon goes unhinged and anti-Trump for 4th of July

Hollywood is a cesspool of unhinged leftism. That’s news to nobody who’s paying attention. But it’s still disconcerting when people’s whose work I respected forces me to put them on my No-Watch list. Director Joss Whedon is the latest talent to showcase his combination of unjustified anger and ignorance.

Since it reads like a drunken rant, I’ll post the screenshot, just in case he sobers up and deletes it later.

The Avengers and Age of Ultron director hasn’t put out work since 2015 following family issues that sidelined him. But he’s working on his first television series since directing an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2013. The new series, called The Nevers, is in production now with a 2020 release date.

In the meantime, the director is content insulting the President, law enforcement, and “illegal militias” while claiming President Trump will use force and “treasonous criminality” to take the 2020 election. And he decided this was the best thing to post on the 4th of July.

Our EIC called for a boycott of Hollywood last month. I’m not proud of my addiction to television and cinema, but I’m taking steps to build my “No-Watch” list. Joss Whedon, whose work I’ve loved, has shown he doesn’t deserve my dollars.

Joy Villa on being called the ‘N-word’

Joy Villa on being called the 'N-word'

“The only time I’ve ever been called the N-word derogatorily is from other people of color or White liberals.”

– Joy Villa

Joy Villa made a huge splash when she came out as a Trump supporter. She’s an African-America in the entertainment industry, making her a rare conservative demographically. As a result, she has been relentlessly attacked for her views by those who believe she’s not on the proper side of the race debate.

But even if she weren’t a conservative, being a pro-life woman who gave up a child to adoption a decade ago should be enough to eliminate her from being a Democrat. The pro-abortion party has had many in its ranks declare there is no room for pro-life people in the Democratic Party. Villa wouldn’t be welcomed even if she denounced President Trump based solely on her adherence to the belief living human beings have rights at all stages.

I admire Villa’s courage and willingness to speak out. On Twitter, she’s a rockstar.
