Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley became an international sensation with her tough style and hard-nosed stances on foreign affairs, but some forget she has always been a paragon of strong values when it comes to domestic issues as well.
Her take on same-sex marriage is one that bears repeating.
“Republicans need to stay strong on the fact that marriage is between a man and a woman. Those are values that are true to the party and true to who we are. They could focus on jobs and the economy, but we all know that keeping the family structure intact is very important in our country.”
It’s important to note she was talking directly to Republicans. Is unimaginable to see Democrats ever understanding the importance of a family structure based on the traditions that helped make our country great, but when we lose Republicans to the tenets of progressive thought, the future becomes much more grim. Also noteworthy is that she isn’t taking a stand against homosexuality itself. Biblically, it is a sin like do many others, but to invoke our human sinful nature in politics is to force all fingers to point at everyone else. We are all flawed. We all sin. Let’s focus on what we can control, which is the traditional nature of the institution of marriage.
One of the reasons I fear the GOP is lost is because many have abandoned conservatism and replaced it with the type of moderate populism that gets little done but complains a lot. Haley is right to go after Republicans for leaning left.
Will you help revive the American Conservative Movement?
