How do you know when something is masquerading as light? If it changes the Word of God in such a way that challenges His deity, authority or overall message, it’s false.
It isn’t a matter of simple differences in translation. The numerous variations in translations, albeit minor in most cases, are reconciled very easily by the fact that the message itself is not changed. In other words, each can read a different major version of the Bible, but all can walk away knowing the fundamental truths (apologies to the KJV-only crowd).
Test to know whether or not someone or something is masquerading as light by turning to scripture. You don’t have to know the Bible word for word to do this. Just ask yourself this question when testing anything: is or was the Word of God changed in order to fit someone’s idea or theology?
These are some of the basic truths that one should test any doctrine against, as these fundamentals are not based on interpretation or conjecture. There are many others, but these are just some basic facts that would knockout a few “Christian” denominations today.
- God (Yahweh/Yah/Jehovah/Hashem/יהוה) is the one and only Creator (John 5:44, Gal 3:20)
- God has one begotten Son named Jesus (Yeshua/Yehoshua) born to a virgin (John 3:16, Matt 1:25, 1 John 4:9-10)
- Jesus was crucified because of sin, though He was without sin (Heb 4:15, 1 Peter 2:21-22)
- The Commandments of God and His Son are to be obeyed (Matt 5:17-19, 19:16-18, 1 Cor 7:18-19, 1 John 5:1-3)
- Moses and the prophets wrote of Jesus (John 1:45 ; 5:39)
- We are saved because of God’s Grace through Faith in His Son (Eph 2:4-5, 8-9)
- You cannot gain salvation through the Law, only Jesus (Rom 2:27-29)
- You are “born again” by being baptized in the Holy Spirit and water (John 3:5)
- Jesus will return the same way He ascended to His Father (Acts 1:11)
- You will have everlasting life if you believe in Jesus (John 3:16, 35-36)
- You will not be married to anyone in heaven other than Christ (Matt 22:29-30, John 3:29, 2 Cor 11:2)
- Angels are not to be worshiped or prayed to because they serve the elect/righteous (Heb 1:13-14)
- The Law is not abolished by Christ, but fulfilled once He became the sin offering (Matt 5:17, Heb 9:11-15, Rom 3:25, Rom 8:3)
- Gentile believers in Christ are grafted into Israel (Rom 11:24, Eph 3:6, Col 1:11-13 )
- Neither churches nor Gentile believers replace Israel (Rom 11)
- Gentiles are circumcised in spirit (Rom 2:26-29)
- Unrighteousness does not inherit the kingdom of God which includes idolatry, covetousness, adultery, homosexuality, perversion, drunkards etc,. (1 Cor 6:9-11, Eph 5:3-6, Gal 5:19-23)
- There is only ONE mediator between God and man, and that is His Son (1 Tim 2:5)
Doctrinal changes through religion and media:
Some doctrines or leaders change scripture ever so slightly, and other times it’s blatantly obvious. Either way, the deviation can be blasphemous.
A good example of a dangerous doctrinal change would be changing “the God” to “a god”. This change effectively challenges the authority of our Creator, and yes, one major religion does this. In this case, a seemingly small change creates an entirely new theology, thus a seed is planted for a new belief system. And it would seem there is no shortage of people who are easily convinced of such lies.
Another form of doctrinal change comes through a twisted view of scripture in order to fit scripture to tradition. For instance, to justify certain eating habits many use Peter’s dream. However, the following verses clearly state what that dream meant, which had nothing to do with food. Again, this was done in order to create a further distance between Jews and their Messiah.
Changes made by way of tradition are not necessarily written doctrine, but beliefs based on traditions rather than truth can be far more lethal in some cases. This is because it’s harder to implement change when everyone around you would more than likely criticize it or not understand the reasoning. It is especially hard when family begins to alienate you for those beliefs.
It didn’t take long for new doctrine to be created that left out all the Jewish foundations. The traditions of men filled the void of God-ordained appointed times, which is what most of us are familiar with and celebrate today. It’s so common that even non-believers celebrate these so called “Christian” traditions.
Another way of changing doctrine is through media. One example of this traditional doctrine being played out is when we see Biblical movies (or a series as it were) that evidently never consulted the actual Bible. They take Biblical stories and turn them into something completely contrary and belittling to the actual events or people. And even if the movie is not Christian, the majority of movies confirm traditions held by nearly all Westerners. It’s the common thing.
You might ask how can they get away with this? Because very few realized it isn’t biblical. They went or go along with it. Very few people contest the media and its portrayal of Biblical stories. And that should give us pause.
Many people’s belief is solely based on the teachings of men, thus their understanding is very limited. In doing this they short themselves true knowledge. How can you know God without knowing about Him? It goes without saying that you can’t get it from movies or television.
In some cases these movies or series on Biblical characters will imply them to be lunatics, fanatics, schizophrenic or just incredibly lucky. They make God out to be a deity who likes to kill on a whim or is very unapproachable spiritually. The fact is that most Christians do not relate with God the Father because they have been told that grace erases all things from the past.
Did we fall for a trap?
Generally speaking Christianity has been dumbed down. Is it not conspicuous that after the scattering of the saints Jews could no longer relate to Christianity? Remember that Jewish believers hadn’t changed their belief in the Torah. They were only given another perspective that showed them the mystery that the prophets longed to see. The mystery being that Yeshua was hidden until the time appointed so that He could be an offering that covered sin for everyone once and for all. Yeshua was the Passover Lamb and the manifestation of the Law.
Only by believing in Yeshua can you gain Salvation and atonement. Instead of the blood of bulls and rams, the blood of God’s Son who had to be born of flesh in order for His blood to be shed, this was the secret. This is what the sacrifice of Isaac was showing us, that God would provide His own lamb who He would then resurrect in order to seal the covenant made. The Good News was that all mankind could be set apart if they believed in His beloved Son as the Messiah!
Maybe Jews couldn’t relate because Jesus somehow became a pale Westerner, similar to those that hated them. Or maybe because many, many Jews were killed by so-called “Christians”. This in addition to the Commandments being ignored and the ordained Feasts no longer being observed changed everything.
The door was opened for doctrines and traditions of men to once again hold more authority than the Word of God.
It seems pretty obvious we’ve done exactly what Satan wanted. We fell for his trap, once again.
What’s the harm?
A simple misunderstanding of scripture can be because of ignorance; it happens from time to time. But at other times it’s not misunderstanding, rather blatant rejection. In the case of rejection scripture is purposely changed or twisted in order to create or support a different theology or false doctrine. Whether the twisting of scripture is said or written doesn’t make any difference, damage can still be done.
Adding a few lines of real scripture seems to convince us, doesn’t it? Those who believe in false doctrines, theories, or theologies typically fail to find out the truth for themselves because that would require reading the Bible. It can all just come down to not wanting to accept scripture as is since it would go against one’s lifestyle.
This ultimately leads to confusion.
The Holy Spirit does not lead believers to confusion, only the wicked who are blind to truth. All these different directions within Christianity cause many people to think that there are many paths to God or that all religions are okay.
The stage has been set for a new age mentality where just about anything goes that results in people struggling and backsliding. Is it any wonder then why people are not finding peace in their faith?
In conclusion
We highly encourage you to diligently seek the Holy Spirit for guidance and ask that you not be blind to the truth. Regardless, always open the Word of God and read it for yourself!
Is it possible that the majority of Christians are misled? Yes. It’s hard to believe, I know. The fact is that most do not lean on the Holy Spirit for guidance. They lean on the bad shepherds and false teachers.
The worse case scenario would be a false doctrine or religion misguiding people into apostasy because they are not receiving truth. I believe we are already there.
We would like to extend an offer to anyone who is in need of a Bible, but cannot purchase one for whatever reason. Please send us a message and we’ll try and get one to you as soon as possible.
