The internet is loaded with videos of people being asked questions and giving answers that should amaze most Americans. When I say, “should,” I’m actually a bit skeptical if that’s actually the case, especially when it comes to history. I still recall, after all these years, most of what I learned about our Presidents. In fact, I recall hearing that Abraham Lincoln started the Republican Party, which was one of the reasons at an early age, even before I understood a lick about politics, that I thought I would become a Republican. It turned out I was right.
But either history lessons in school aren’t what they used to be or people have generally become dumber, because listening to the answers in this video by PragerU didn’t match what I’ve thought about people. Surely everyone knows who the 16th President was and what party he started, right?
I guess I was wrong.
The fun part about watching this video by Will Witt at PragerU is seeing how these people, mostly Democrats, responded to news that President Lincoln, the man singularly responsible for ending slavery in America, was a Republican. It blows their minds to think that the Republican Party is anything but racist. Why? Because that’s the narrative mainstream media has pushed, and frankly many Republicans haven’t helped dispel this myth.
Is the nation ready to revive the American Conservative Movement?
I firmly believe most Republicans are not racist just as most Americans aren’t. But there is definitely racism on both sides of the political aisle. The difference is the racism associated with Republicans is called out as racism while the racism associated with Democrats is often excused. Case-in-point: Representative Ilhan Omar. Even though her antisemitic remarks are worthy of true punishment, Democrats are having a hard time agreeing to even call her out for it on the House floor.
There are so many examples of how the political world has been turned upside down by false premises perpetuated by mainstream media. The notion of Republicans holding the exclusive label of racism is one of them.
