Faux conservative Trumpists prove that Winston Churchill was right

We’re having an interesting week at the Strident Conservative, thanks to so-called conservative Christians who believe there’s no line Trump can cross that will cost him their support. Check out this email I received to a radio listener I’ll refer to as S.Z.:

“How can you even remotely call yourself a conservative? David Leach, you are a Left-leaning liberal Democrat. I suggest you get off your soap box and start listening to some real conservatives like Limbaugh, Savage, Hannity, or Levine [sic].”

Stop laughing! This person really called Limbaugh, Savage, Hannity, and Levin “conservatives.” As you might expect, the listener concluded with a bit of praise for Donald Trump:

“I support Trump because he supports my conservative Christian values. He is the only one out there who really stands up for what is right.”

Apparently, S.Z. isn’t a regular listener of my daily feature because as we all know, I’m “always right.” 😉

I’ve also been hearing a lot lately on my social networks from Trump sycophants who clearly have no idea what conservatism really is.

For example, after he joined Democrats and 12 of his fellow Republicans in the House in a vote to terminate Trump’s national emergency declaration at the border, Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) defended his vote by defending the Constitution in an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union this past weekend.

“I think the president is violating our constitutional system. And I don’t think Congress can grant legislative powers to the president by statute. You can’t just pass a statute that says the president now has appropriation power and bypass Congress.”

Days after his vote, Amash was still taking some heat from fellow Republicans for not bowing to Trump’s demands. Undeterred, Amash sent out a tweet explaining his views concerning his Congressional responsibilities:

When I posted a meme quoting Amash’s tweet my Facebook page, one person responded by questioning Amash’s ability to spell the word “Constitution.” Trumpism at its finest.

For the record, Amash garners a 90% (A) Liberty Score® on Conservative Review.

Speaking of Conservative Review, Mark Levin sent a tweet on Monday calling Sen. Rand Paul a “phony constitutionalist” for opposing Trump’s national emergency declaration for the same reasons Amash is opposing it. However, it would appear Levin is more concerned about being accepted by Trump than he is defending the Constitution based on another tweet where he mentioned the “shout-outs” he received during Trump’s speech on CPAC.

I wonder what S.Z. would say about Levin now. Just kidding. I already know how Trumpism works. It was a rhetorical question.

Whenever I experience weeks like the one I’m currently having with the Trump cult, I’m reminded of the words of Winston Churchill when he said, “You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.”

My unpopularity with Trump’s faux conservatives proves that Winston Churchill is right.
