Embattled Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) continues to spark outrage over her antisemitic Tweets and comments, even drawing rebukes from within her own caucus. Now, a group of eleven pro-Israel non-government organizations have sent a letter to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and House Foreign Affairs Committee chair Eliot Engel demanding the freshman Congresswoman be removed from the important foreign affairs committee.
Jewish Groups Demand Omar Be Removed From Committee
A group of leading Jewish organizations petitioned the House of Representative’s top Democrats on Monday, demanding that Rep. Ilan Omar (D., Minn.) be removed from her position on the powerful Foreign Affairs Committee in light of her numerous anti-Semitic remarks and ties to groups that advocate terrorism against Jewish people, according to a copy of a letter exclusively obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
Omar, who has been singled out multiple times in her short career on Congress due to several anti-Semitic comments, continued to double down on her belief that pro-Israel members of Congress are more loyal to Israel than America on Sunday.
Here is a pdf of the letter.
“In our opinion, Rep. Omar has already acknowledged that she, herself, has a problem with anti-Semitism,” the letter states. “Yet, even after her ‘apology’ for her antiSemitism, she went on to speak at a forum together with well-known antiSemites who have known ties to terrorist organizations and those who seek harm to the Jewish people and the destruction of the State of Israel.”
My Take
The left will try to paint this as an attempt by bigots to get rid of a Muslim, but nothing could be further from the truth. It wouldn’t matter if she were Jewish, Christian, atheist, or anything else. Her attacks on the Jewish state of Israel, our greatest ally in the Middle East and arguably the world, should instantly disqualify her for sitting on a committee that deals directly with our foreign affairs. There are just certain biases that simply don’t fit with certain committees.
Few are calling for her to step down from the House altogether, though that should probably also be a consideration considering the fact she’s continue to demonstrate anti-American perspectives, but that’s for the voters of Minnesota to decide next year. In the meantime, having her on this committee is ridiculous.
There have been signs of sanity from Democratic leadership as they occasionally rebuke the most insane perspectives within their caucus, but these signs have been few and far between. It’s time to set the tone. Are Democrats really as anti-Israel as they seem to be?
