When Brazilian faith healer Joao Teixeira de Faria was endorsed by Oprah Winfrey, his world changed. He became known as “John of God” and built an empire that would make any megachurch pastor jealous. His reach was incredible as people from around the world came to him for healing, guidance, and even to “buy” children.
Over the last month, he has been alleged to have committed sexual assaults against over 600 women and operated a child-producing sexual slavery ring through which he was able to “farm” babies to be sold to people across the planet.
Here are the details of the allegations:
Faith healer with millions of followers ran a “sex slave farm and sold babies to highest bidder”
Bittencourt, who now lives outside Brazil under the protection of international organisations after receiving death threats for her work, claimed Teixeira would offer money to poor girls aged 14 to 18 to go and live in mineral mines or farms he owns in the Brazilian states of Goias and Minas Gerais.
There they would become sex slaves at and be forced to get pregnant and give birth to their babies.
She claims: “In exchange for food, they were impregnated and their babies sold on the black market.
“Hundreds of girls were enslaved over years, lived on farms in Goias, served as wombs to get pregnant, for their babies to be sold.
“These girls were murdered after 10 years of giving birth. We have got a number of testimonies.”
If these charges are true, it’s a warning to people such as Oprah Winfrey who see spirituality outside of the Bible as possible and valid. Even if he is exonerated of all charges, which seems unlikely considering the wealth of evidence and witnesses, the warning remains. Any claims of righteous supernatural spirituality outside of the Bible’s teachings are false. Period.
There are definitely supernatural elements at work in the world that do not endeavor to help man and do God’s good work. The entire Book of Revelation discusses these negative supernatural events. Ephesians 6:12 alone should warn us there are powers that are beyond us working against us.
It’s possible Joao Teixeira de Faria was channeling supernatural beings, but it definitely wasn’t the benevolent spirits he claimed. He has done damage to those he has hurt directly. He has done damage to those who followed him or believed him.
This is the challenge with anti-Biblical spiritualism. It takes people in the wrong direction, which is why people like Oprah seeking spirituality outside of the Bible do damage to their own followers as well.
