Celebrities who are pro-Israel

Celebrities who are pro-Israel

The Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Movement has plenty of money flowing in, mostly from Europe, to pressure businesses and investors from engaging with Israeli organizations in an effort to isolate the Jewish state from the rest of the world. Their stated hope is that Israel can be pressured into abandoning “occupied” lands, but many at the top of the movement understand that doing so will eventually lead to the disruption of Israel as a nation and the birth of a dominate Palestinian state.

While more politicians and prominent corporate figures are starting to shift their views on the BDS movement, the majority of exposure to the movement comes in the form of entertainment. They realize they have an uphill road to climb before Americans treat Israel the way most of the rest of the world does, so they’re targets are the celebrities they feel influence us the most.

It’s becoming difficult for major celebrities to openly embrace Israel, especially if they have an international audience. But some celebrities are swimming against the current by openly declaring their support for America’s only true ally in the Middle East.

This list was much harder to put together than I thought it would be because there are conflicting views. Some celebrities, such as Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, are on both pro-Israel and pro-BDS lists. This contradiction is partially reconciled by shifting views or tempered responses that support Israel while also showing support for Palestinians, but there also seems to be misinformation campaigns out there that try to list celebrities who are clearly pro-Israel as being pro-BDS over isolated comments. If a celebrity pronounces their support for Israel but cancels an appearance over security concerns, that doesn’t mean they’re suddenly BDS supporters, but that’s how some are being painted.

This list is gathered and cross-referenced to more sources than I can list. At any point, some of these celebrities may have changed sides, so be sure to check the most recent reports before assuming they’re still pro-Israel.

This list is important because those of us who support Israel’s right to exist and operate as a sovereign nation should be aware of which celebrities share our views. We didn’t include some prominent names that simply made an appearance in Israel unless they made their support for the nation public. It’s better to be certain rather than make assumptions.

So, here’s the list in no particular order…

Simon Cowell

Celebrities who are pro-Israel

Donated $150,000 to the Friends of Israeli Defense Forces that pays for education and care of Israeli troops and supports families of fallen soldiers.

Jenna Jameson

Jenna Jameson Israel

The Jewish former porn star has been a thorn in the sides of leftists for years. She’s not only pro-Israel but also politically conservative.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

The regularly newsworthy power couple have had their children baptized in Jerusalem. Kardashian learned how dangerous it can be to support the Jewish state after a Tweet saying she was “praying for Israel” after Hamas rocket attacks. The onslaught of hateful messages, including death threats, compelled her to delete her Tweet.

Jean-Claude Van Damme

Jean-Claude Van Damme Israel

Following a controversial Facebook post that showed him in Jerusalem in which he said, “Hello from Israel,” the martial arts actor later changed the caption to appease the hordes crowding his comment feed. While it was a backtrack from his original support, we’ll assume his presence in the nation and his original post reflected his feelings, and his subsequent edit was simply to not cause trouble.

Ashton Kutcher and Gerard Butler

Ashton Kutcher and Gerard Butler Israel

What do actors Ashton Kutcher and Gerard Butler have to do with one another? They appeared together at the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces that raised $60 million to support soldiers and families in the IDF. Which brings us to one of the performers at the event…

Pharrell Williams

Pharrell Williams Israel

Williams took a lot of heat from fans and foes alike by performing at the FIDF fundraiser in Los Angeles in 2018.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga Israel

As the push against celebrities going to Israel reached its peak in 2014, Lady Gaga bucked the system, not only performing there but becoming the source of rallies in the states based on her profanity-laden proclamation of affection for Israel.

Keanu Reeves

Keanu Reeves Israel

If there’s a celebrity who can escape criticism over supporting Israel, it’s Keanu. The John Wick star has visited Israel multiple times and signed his support for Israel in 2014.

Sarah Silverman

Sarah Silverman Israel

While her support may publicly be more about her Jewish heritage and defending Jews themselves rather than Israel as a nation, she seems to be against Hamas terrorism enough to count as a pro-Israel celebrity.

Bill Maher

Bill Maher Israel

Comedic political talk show host Bill Maher may be the key to getting progressives to understand why Israel exists, how it’s handling the Palestinian situation properly, and why their conflicts with their neighbors are usually no fault of Israel itself. He’s become an icon for the left with his anti-Trump rhetoric finding its way into every show. But his logic wins out, and when it comes to Israel, the only logical way to handle it is to accept and support the nation.

This list is obviously incomplete, but if it does well, we’ll either expand it or post a new list with fresh celebrity faces.

Israel faces political, economic, and militaristic challenges from every side. As the BDS movement continues to pick up steam, it’s good to know there are still some celebrities who are brave enough to go against the flow in their professions.

XFL unveils teams. Names great. Logos not so much.

XFL unveils teams Names great Logos not so much

The team names are in for Vince McMahon’s XFL, his response to the NFL’s growing dissatisfaction. Before today, the cities were announced in rather large markets, signaling a direct confrontational strategy with the NFL in multiple markets, though in a different portion of the year. The emerging league unveiled its team names and logos this afternoon. The Team names overall seem to be well-received. The logos, in contrast reveal a certain lacking of creativity. The team names and logo judgement are as follows

Dallas Renegades

The logo looks like it came out of a create a team mode on Madden. Not really a fan of the name because a renegade is basically a deserter. Outlaws would have been a better word choice and would sound better because its four syllables, not five.

Houston Roughnecks

This is an excellent team name that pays homage to the community around it. The logo resembles the Houston Oilers, in that they are the same thing, though Roughnecks is more colloquial and blue collar sounding. Overall solid.

LA Wildcats

Hate the team name. It’s 2019 and your team name is the Wildcats? I would joke with my wife when filling out NCAA March Madness brackets about how many Wildcats there were, Kentucky, Villanova, etc. The logo I understand because of the marketability.

New York Guardians

Fantastic name and logo. It kind of has a superhero feel while at the same time a Gothic gargoyle vibe.

St. Louis Battle Hawks

Points for originality. War Eagle was taken. Bird are too generic, but they spiced it up a little bit

Seattle Dragons

It’s risky to go with dragons and pull it off. I think the Seattle Dragons fall short. This logo has also garnered criticism for similarities to UAB.

Image

Tampa Bay Vipers

The logo is a “V” depicting a snake’s eye. Clever, simple, original enough. No complaints. The reptile community is well represented in the XFL.

DC Defenders

The alliteration is the only reason I like this team name. Washington DC does not have a proud military history, getting burned down during the War of 1812, in which the subsequent Battle of Baltimore saved the union. DC Swamp or DC Debt would have paid more accurate respects to the community. better. So again, I don’t get it, but the alliteration works extremely well.

Final Thoughts

That’s the quick rundown of the eight teams the XFL has announced. Compared to the failed AAF, I do not like the team names or logos early as much. The choice naming of the San Antonio Commanders was enough to make me a fan. The Fleet, Apolllos, Hotshots, and Iron were also well-crafted team names. Comparatively, the XFL is generic. But keep in mind the NFL has it’s fair share of bad team names with bad or dull logos. To list a few: Browns, Jets, Giants, Packers. Major League Baseball is also unimmune. So we need to remove the bias that gives the existing team names we have grown accustom to a relative free pass.

The AFF had great team names and great football, but the XFL doesn’t exceed this, but at least they don’t plan to dump scarce money into a failed app. Overall, this announcement was enough to give the league added legitimacy in its daunting quest to challenge the NFL.

Stop blaming Sony for Spider-Man debacle. It’s Disney’s fault, folk.

Stop blaming Sony for Spider-Man debacle Its Disneys fault folk

The Twitterverse is all aflutter over Sony and Disney’s inability to make a new deal that would allow Spider-Man to continue being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Nearly every fanboy is outraged at Sony, but this outrage is completely misplaced. It was Disney’s greed that got in the way.

Sony wanted to continue the current deal that brought Spider-Man’s two recent solo-films to the big screen. They were madly successful as star Tom Holland became widely acclaimed as having the best portrayal Spider-Man. But Disney didn’t like the deal because it kept most of the profits in Sony’s hands.

Marvel knew going in that they’d play second fiddle to Sony on all Spider-Man movies. They chose to make the deal for the sake of the MCU and it worked wonders for both companies. But Disney got greedy.

Spider-Man Out of the MCU: Marvel, Sony Can’t Reach Deal

A dispute at the top levels of both companies has essentially resulted in Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige being nixed from future Spider-Man projects, according to Deadline. Disney had asked for a 50/50 co-financing agreement between the two studios on future Spider-Man films. Again according to Deadline’s sources, Sony turned that offer down. Sony proposed keeping the arrangement similar to the terms that dictated the first two Spider-Man MCU films, such that Disney would only receive 5% of first dollar gross. Disney refused that deal.

Sony wanted to keep the deal they both agreed to from the beginning. Disney’s the one who got greedy. Blaming Sony for this is like blaming a divorce on the person who was cheated on. It’s Disney who’s being unfaithful to Sony… and fans.

‘Godfather’ star Gianni Russo on Chris ‘Fredo’ Cuomo’s rant

'Godfather' star Gianni Russo on Chris 'Fredo' Cuomo's rant

When CNN anchor Chris Cuomo was filmed delivering an unhinged rant to a heckler at a restaurant, one of the things many people took offense to was his declaration that the term “Fredo” was to Italian-Americans as the “n-word” is to African-Americans. This has been completely debunked since then with guests on his own show using the name to refer to Donald Trump Jr. But that didn’t keep CNN from backing their guy.

TMZ caught up with Gianni Russo, a star from The Godfather who told the reality of the situation from three unique perspectives. First, he said it wasn’t a racial slur and clearly referred to the weaker brother, a perspective he understands as a star of the film. Second, he knows the Cuomo family well and couldn’t believe Chris would have said that. Third, knowing father Mario Cuomo, former governor of New York, leads him to believe the elder Cuomo would have smacked his son had he heard him say what he did.

No real repercussions are expected against Cuomo from his employers at CNN.

Here’s a video from TMZ of Russo’s perspective:
