After two years, it seems we’re almost done with the Robert Mueller saga. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard such rumors, but this time it comes from Mueller’s boss, acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker.
Following this weekend’s arrest of Roger Stone, many believed a new chapter was opening in the investigation, one that could tie directly to the President. Stone has been a confidant and adviser to Donald Trump since well before his presidential run. Now, he’s facing charges associated with talking to foreign organizations, namely WikiLeaks, about information in hacked emails secured by other foreign groups, most likely Russian.
If this is, indeed, in the process of being wrapped up, it’s very likely Stone will be the biggest fish caught by the investigation and the only one that actually ties back to the original intent of the investigation: Russian hacking of the 2016 election. The investigation has yielded other fruits, including Paul Manafort, Michael Cohen, and Michael Flynn, but those cases ended up being separate from the Russia investigation. Stone’s case is the only one that’s tied to Russia through WikiLeaks.
We’ll soon see if the investigation is truly in its home stretch. No time frame has been established, so “close” to being completed could still mean months. Tucker Carlson and Kimberley Strassel weighed in on the issue.
