For the first time, I’m actually concerned about Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). She’s seen the writing on the wall. Very few people actually like her as her announcement of a presidential run was met with all sorts of “meh.” Undeterred, she’s tapping into the radical progressive ideas of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez by proposing one of the most destructive tax policies ever conceived in America.
The worst part is that the message will actually resonate with the far-leftist sheep who can’t see beyond their own self-imposed circumstances. There are those in situations that are difficult or even impossible to avoid. They need help. But the group that Warren is appealing to is the masses of people who have the ability to do well in America but who choose a different path. To them, the rich are the enemy.
Attacking the ultra-wealthy has always been a staple of the Democratic Party, but it’s taken on a whole new level of idiocy with Ocasio-Cortez and now Warren. I won’t even touch AOC’s proposed 70% tax on the rich. I will, however, point to the insanity of Warren’s proposal. As Raymond Fava pointed out, it’s likely unconstitutional:
Elizabeth Warren’s wealth tax proposal is most definitely unconstitutional
Elizabeth Warren has touted her latest anti-capitalist proposal. In her last proposal, she introduced measures that would make corporations less investment-worthy in an effort to shift their priorities. Now she wants to impose a wealth tax on the richest of the rich, .1%. The wealth tax would be a new tax in the repertoire of Uncle Sam.
It must be stated that a wealth tax is not an income tax, its a federal tax on assets. Note: total assets and not net assets would be taxed according to the original report and subsequent reporting thus far. The proposal has seen a lot of praise from Democrats who are weighing their options of the proposal with AOC’s 70% income tax proposal.
If it’s unconstitutional, the natural question to ask would be why I’m so concerned. There are many reasons. Here’s just a few.
- Just because something is unconstitutional doesn’t mean it won’t make it past the courts. Lest we forget, Obamacare has been and still is considered by many to be unconstitutional.
- Where she is now and where she’ll end up in the future if she were able to win the presidency are two different things. One thing we know for sure: if she’s able to get into the White House and has a Congress filled with AOC’s, the Constitution is only going to be a speed bump over which they can propose something else that’s nearly as dangerous.
- Creeping taxation has always been a problem in America when Democrats have their way. This is far beyond “creeping” taxation. It’s a blunt and unrelenting taxation of hatred towards those who have helped keep America afloat through rough times.
But there’s a bigger reason Warren’s proposal concerns me. The growing ranks of radical progressive sheep who are embracing the tenets of socialism will pose problems for the nation regardless of what taxes or laws are passed. President Obama planted their seed. Bernie Sanders watered it. Now, people like Warren, AOC, Senator Kamala Harris, former Representative Beto O’Rourke, and an increasingly unhinged leftist media are working the fields of socialism. It’s catching on, especially among the entitled youth who have been indoctrinated to the notion that wealth is evil.
It doesn’t matter whether or not the Democrats fighting for Bernie Sanders’ mantle ahead of the 2020 election believe their rhetoric or not. We’ve seen with candidate Trump that people will believe something if it sounds good. Just as millions of Trump supporters actually believed Mexico was going to pay for the wall after he said it repeatedly, so too will progressive sheep believe we can solve all of our problems by taking the immense wealth of those who hold up the United States economy.
Demonizing the wealthy has always been a thing for leftists. But what Warren and her cohorts are doing could lead to truly harmful repercussions against the pillars of our economy. We need people who build things. We need people who employ others. The tenets of capitalism can only bring benefits to everyone willing to take them if they’re not hampered by a federal government bent on their destruction. This is why Warren’s proposals are so dangerous. They’re turning radical progressive sheep into warriors against the very people who make America flourish.
