Full disclosure: I do not like CNN’s Jim Acosta. I believe he acts as the worst example of news reporting the United States has seen in the modern era, proudly injecting his ideology when his role is to report the news. There are commentators, columnists, and opinion show hosts whose job is to opine about the news. Acosta, a reporter, is supposed to report it honestly and with as little bias as possible.
He does the exact opposite of what his job description entails.
Today, he announced he is writing a book. I was hoping he would give one of his standard self-righteous, egocentric, and completely detached justifications for doing so and he didn’t disappoint. Acosta’s stated motivations for writing the book may be the most hypocritical and laughably unaware reasons anyone has ever given.
In a statement, he starts it off with a straight-forward reason. This sentence may be the best reporting he has ever done because it is devoid of his standard hyperbole.
“Simply put, I am writing this book to share what I’ve experienced covering President Trump during his first two years in office”
So far, so good, right? Nothing controversial or hypocritical there. In his next sentence, we get to see Jim Acosta’s lack of self-awareness on full display.
Wait for it…
“This sobering, bewildering and sometimes frightening experience has made it absolutely clear that this is a dangerous time to tell the truth in America.”
Well, there you have it. Acosta, who has had challenges since the 2016 general election with being truthful in his reporting, wasn’t trying to be partisan. He feels that if he tells the truth, he may be in danger. This must be why he lies constantly. Fear.
