If you’re one who doesn’t like fan theories that may or may not contain spoilers, be warned:
Possible spoiler alert, if Samuel L. Jackson’s recent revelation is relevant. If you haven’t seen Avengers: Infinity War and you’ve lived under a rock since its release, spoilers about last year’s big hit as well.
As anyone not living under a rock probably knows, many important characters in Avengers: Infinity War were snapped out of existence at the end. This has spawned dozens of popular fan theories, some of them viable, about how Marvel will bring back some or all of these beloved characters. We know they’re coming back because Spiderman, Black Panther, and Guardians of the Galaxy all have movies coming up, while Disney has shows that feature the Winter Soldier, Falcon, Loki, and Scarlett Witch. Since it’s unlikely all of these will be set before the events of Infinity War, yes, some or all will be revived. Somehow.
This is where Samuel L. Jackson comes in.
The Nick Fury actor was doing an interview about the upcoming Captain Marvel origin story when he dropped a potentially huge hint about how the events of Infinity War might be reversed. As noted on BGR:
A beloved character who died in ‘Infinity War’ just leaked a huge ‘Endgame’ spoiler
“I mean, [the Avengers are] up against some really, really tough odds right now, we saw throughout Infinity War. So now we know we need something that’s as powerful as Thanos, and at some point, we’ll find out how powerful she is and all the things that she’s capable of. She’s one of the few people in the Marvel universe that can time travel.“
Yes, Jackson just told us that Captain Marvel can travel through time. That’s a massive spoiler for Endgame and future MCU movies. The fact that Captain Marvel can travel through time means we don’t need the Time Stone or random time vortexes from the Quantum Realm to have heroes bouncing through timelines. We just need Captain Marvel.
I disagree that it’s definitely a massive spoiler to know Captain Marvel can time travel. In fact, I think it’s more likely he’s dropping either a mildly significant note or even a red herring. Nevertheless, it’s definitely possible “the most powerful woman in the universe” travels back in time to either prevent Thanos from doing the snap or that enables the Avengers to undo the damage.
Since we’re doing potential spoilers, I’ll tease a bit of my theory, which is still in development. Some believe the quantum realm from Ant Man is where everyone who got snapped out ended up. We see orange orbs suddenly floating around in the credit scene of Ant Man and the Wasp just at the moment that the snap occurs. We also know the quantum realm has time vortexes. Lastly, we’ve seen the artwork for the Avengers’ suits designed for the quantum realm. If Captain Marvel’s time traveling abilities come into play, it may be separate from what the rest of the good guys do to fix the Thanos mess.
As excited as fans are to see the new movie, speculating at this point will probably do more damage than good. We’re almost there, folks. Time to just wait it out and see where Marvel and Disney take us next.
