Over the years, I’ve been off and on about my feelings towards the Daily Caller. On one hand, they deliver some of the best scoops coming out of conservative news outlets. On the other hand, they have a firm belief that “sex sells” and they’re willing to push the limits to make their visitors linger on the site.
Did they cross the line by reposting a fake image of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s legs and feet in a bathtub? Yes.
For those out of the loop, Republicans began to circulate a fake nude photo of me. The @DailyCaller reposted it (!) and refused to indicate it was fake in the title as well.
Completely disgusting behavior from Conservative outlets.
No wonder they defended Kavanaugh so fiercely.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) January 10, 2019
The article is clear that the image is not of the Representative, but that didn’t stop them from spreading a loaded headline that had the sole intention of driving traffic based on a false implication. This is fake news. It’s shameful that a prominent representative of conservative media is using this type of tactic. Pageviews are important, but let’s not devolve to incredibly irresponsible tactics.
We won’t link to the article, but you get the idea from the screenshot above. I hope they’ll remove the story or at the least adjust the headline. Just as we will always call out leftist mainstream media for their falsifications and follies, so too must we call out conservative media when they hurt the cause.
We have enough challenges maintaining credibility with unhinged attacks on good conservative media. We don’t need prominent right-leaning news outlets acting in this manner. We may disagree with AOC’s policies, but she deserves to be treated with dignity.
