Left-wing politicians and activists continue to push the boundaries of societal civility.
One of the most recent such event involved a mob of Antifa members. The “protesters” – and I use that term loosely – surrounded the home of Fox News host Tucker Carlson, banged on his oak front door until it cracked, and shouted chants, such as “Tucker Carlson, we will fight. We know where you sleep at night,” and “Racist scumbag, leave town!”
One of the Antifa “protesters” even “mentioned a pipe bomb, as heard on a security video.”
A left-wing activist recently upped the ante even further, calling for “protesters” to target the parents of a pro-life politician.
On December 21, 2017, Rob Gill, an LGBTQ activist in St. Catharines, Ontario, urged the public, “This Christmas, let’s protest Sam Oosterhoff and his bigot[ed], misogynistic and homophobic personality and upbringing.”
Gill called for the public to “protest at his parents’ home” or to “give them a call.”
As reported by Life Site News, “The threat came after Oosterhoff, an evangelical Christian, had posted a video of a Christmas party thrown by Charles McVety, the president of the Canada Christian College. The video showed Oosterhoff with Premier Doug Ford, both smiling and clapping during a Christmas celebration.”
Why target Oosterhoff’s parents?
According to Gill, because Oosterhoff’s parents home-schooled him, they infected the pro-life politician with his parents’ worldview. As such, in the mind of Mr. Gill, Oosterhoff’s parents are responsible for the politician’s “bigot[ed], misogynistic and homophobic personality.”
Holding Oosterhoff’s parents responsible apparently involved the sharing of their address on social media.
Unfortunate for Mr. Gill, he received a visit from the police instead of the protest for which he had so hoped.
In an inspiring display of mental gymnastics, Rob Gill claimed that, rather than himself, it was the police who had acted excessively by contacting him.
Although no charges were filed, I pray that other police departments take similar actions to ensure civilians’ safety.
I also pray that other activists consider this a warning, and think twice before engaging in behavior that can be considered criminal.
