Mark Meadows on term limits

Mark Meadows on term limits

Around 80% of Americans support term limits for members of Capitol Hill. Despite this super-majority, lawmakers have been reluctant to even discuss the possibility of such a move. It goes against the nature of career politicians which make up the lion’s share of people in the House and Senate.

House Freedom Caucus co-founder Mark Meadows (R-NC) has been a proponent of term limits. His push to limit members of Congress to three two-year terms and Senators to two six-year terms has been widely praised by voters, yet still remains a tough sell to lawmakers.

“Our founders never intended Congress to be a career–part of why Washington has become so dysfunctional is the shift away from this principle. Congressional term limits would do wonders toward addressing the problem.”

Justin Amash for President in 2020 sounds good to me

My mission at the Strident Conservative is to promote conservative values over political parties and to hold members of every political stripe accountable when they fail to uphold those values. I’m particularly motivated to expose people who fail to defend conservatism while claiming to be conservative.

Lately, I’ve been receiving some heat for exposing faux conservatives like Sen. Mike Lee for partnering with Ivanka Trump to advance her feminist socialist agenda; the House Freedom Caucus for selling out to the GOP establishment; the Senate Conservatives Fund for abandoning conservatism for Trumpism; and BlazeTV for becoming a pro-Trump echo chamber and a home for faux conservatives in the media.

In an environment such as this, it’s often tempting to walk away from this mess, move off-grid to Alaska, and wait for the zombie apocalypse. Fortunately, with the support of my wonderful wife and like-minded friends like the awesome Shannon Joy, I’ve adopted the words of the Apostle Paul from his letter to the Philippians (3:12-14, The Message):

I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me.

Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward — to Jesus.

I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.

In the face of such adversity, I’m often asked about how we should proceed in our fight for liberty and a return to conservative values and the Constitution — a tough question to answer.

Those who regularly read or listen to the Strident Conservative know of my resolve to see a new party rise from the ash heap of unibrow Washington. And even thought the odds may be against us, a recent POLITICO/Morning Consult Poll showed a majority of independents and half of respondents overall support the need for a third party.

And that brings me to the recent rumors that Libertarian Republican Rep. Justin Amash may run for president in 2020 on the Libertarian ticket. Personally, I would be all over this.

I’m a big fan of Amash and his solid defense of the Constitution — I’ve referenced him many times in articles on Constitutional matters — and he hasn’t been shy about holding Trump, the GOP, and faux conservatives accountable for violating the trust of the American people and failing to protect and defend the Constitution.

There are early indications that Amash would have the support of conservatives worn down by the repeated betrayals of the GOP establishment. Groups like Amash 4 President have been birthed on Facebook, and a petition has been started calling on Amash to run in 2020 as a third-party candidate.

To those who accept the binary lie that a third-party has no chance and that only a candidate belonging to the establishment duopoly can win, I have only one reply … Abraham Lincoln.

Guns and Crime

Immortalising terrorism with gun confiscation will only result in more terrorism

Is it fair to punish the innocent for the crimes of the guilty?

Word has it that Jacinda Ardern the Prime Minister of New Zealand will immediately punish millions of innocent people with the taking of their property – at effective gunpoint no less. The plan is to grab the guns first and legislate later. Being that this is exactly what the terrorist wanted, it is the wrong thing to do from a practical and moral standpoint.

Practical because as the miscreant stated, it could have used any number of means to kill people. It is immoral because millions of innocent people will have to pay the price for its insane actions. They will not only be deprived of their property, but they will be left helpless in the face of criminals and terrorists who by definition do not comply with the law.

Why is tyranny quick to exploit a tragedy?

The Prime Minister had stated that previous attempts at depriving the people of their human rights failed to gain any traction. This time in the midst of the raw emotions of the moment the government took quick action to avoid any thoughtful deliberation on this extremely important civil rights question.

If they had contemplated this oppressive action over time, they would have realized that it won’t have the intended result. This will only embolden those who use terrorism to further their goals. This misguided action will only serve to encourage others to attain their own bit of ‘fame’ with these kinds of horrific acts.

As reported in USA Today, In her announcement of the ban and confiscation edict, the Prime Minister of New Zealand forwarded the bizarre presumption that somehow the government was the original owner of these weapons with the line: “We just want the guns back”.

Later on, in the same article, they reported on the statement she had made last Tuesday that

she would deny the man responsible for the nation’s worst terror attack in modern history the one thing he likely craved: fame.

This misguided action by the Prime Minister will have the opposite effect. What better way to gain infamy that to be the reason why millions of people will be deprived of their property and civil rights. This confiscation action will now enshrine the perpetrator of this crime in the history books. This is what happens when someone acts first and thinks later.

Immortalizing a criminal

The miscreant who perpetrated this crime will now be rewarded with exactly what it desired – being immortalized in the history books as the one who caused millions to lose their civil rights.  New Zealand already had strict limitations on Liberty and yet this did nothing to stop this crime from taking place. What will they do the next time around? Take away any remaining firearms in the country? Make no mistake, this will only cause more terrorism and division.

Socialists Bernie Sanders acted quickly to exploit on this serious crisis for political gain with a call for a ‘ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons in the United States.’ While Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez applauded this major denigration of Liberty.

The Takeaway

Leftist often parrot lines about ‘fairness’, ’equality’ and democracy, but this action shows that those are but mere window dressing. They will quickly jettison those precepts when the opportunity to exploit a serious crisis presents itself.

There should be no doubt that more of the Liberty grabber Left in the states will see this ‘progress’ as inspiration to call for gun confiscation as they have far too many times in the past. It will also ‘inspire’ would be terrorists to try to obtain this kind of result in other places. Instead of doing something about terrorism, it will encourage it while endangering the innocent.

Ben Shapiro on a divided America

Ben Shapiro on a divided America

The extreme polarization that has taken over political discourse in our nation is clear and palatable. Notions of bipartisanship in DC or common courtesy at events have been tossed aside, replaced by vitriol so putrid, only the bravest gluttons venture forth into “enemy” territory while most stay isolated in their ideological echo chambers reaffirming their biases and remaining blind to any hint of fault in their chosen leaders.

This is a new phenomenon, at least for the modern era. It wasn’t too long ago when there were certain areas of disagreement, but even in those disagreements we could find common ground. Those days seem to be behind us.

In his new book, “”The Right Side of History: How Reason and Moral Purpose Made the West Great,” DailyWire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro explores much of what has caused this divide. In a nation where radical progressivism has replaced common sense Democratic notions, it’s understandable how this divide has been so easily maintained with the current and previous Presidents. Shapiro points to the statistics surrounding this divide in his book:

“We’re more divided than at any time in the recent past. In July 2017, Pew Research found that 68 percent of Democrats said it was “stressful and frustrating” to talk to political opponents; 52 percent of Republicans agreed.”

You can get a copy of the book on Amazon, where it just hit #1 on the bestseller list.
