Democrats screamed in unison that they wanted a FBI investigation into the sexual assault allegations made against Brett Kavanaugh. When they got moderate lame duck Senator Jeff Flake to do their bidding, we speculated that this was a blessing in disguise.
It wasn’t. As it turns out, the FBI investigation wasn’t really what they wanted despite their incessant tears.
Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee used last week’s hearing over the accusations of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh to push a unified message: the FBI must investigate the allegations.
But now, many Democrats are arguing that the probe is not enough, prompting accusations from Republicans that they’re already moving the goalposts.
If you expected anything else, you haven’t been paying attention. This has never been about helping the victim. It hasn’t even really been about stopping Judge Kavanaugh, though that would be a cherry on top if they could make it happen. Their entire strategy from well before the allegations came out until today is to help them win the midterm elections.
Without an FBI investigation, they had all the victim cards they needed to rally their voters and raise campaign money. The Republicans took that away, which is why it was initially believed to be a blessing in disguise that Flake switched sides.
Democrats will play their victim cards no matter what Republicans do. The FBI investigation was never what they wanted. It was just the temporary justification they needed to cry. Now they’ll cry about something else until the elections.
