Chicago was truly excited to get Rahm Emanuel as their mayor in 2011. He brought administrative experience from the revered Obama administration. President Obama was the closest thing to a living legend the city had seen since Ryne Sandberg and Emanuel was poised to be their next great leader.
After seven and a half years, the wear and tear of broken promises, mounting criticism, and a failure to reduce gun violence in a city where guns are outlawed have had a major toll on Emanuel. Today, he announced he would not be seeking reelection in February.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announces he will not seek re-election
“As much as I love this job and will always love this city and its residents, I’ve decided not to seek re-election,” Emanuel said at a press conference on Tuesday. “This has been the job of a lifetime, but it is not a job for a lifetime.”
Emanuel added: “For the last seven and a half years I’ve given my all every day and left everything on the field. This commitment has required significant sacrifice all around. … We have more to do and from now until then, we will do everything in our power to get it done and walk out the door hopefully leaving Chicago and Chicagoans in a better place.”
Despite a concerted effort to enforce their anti-gun laws, the results have been opposite of what they desired. Instead of taking guns out of the hands of criminals, they merely kept guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens who are unable to defend themselves against these criminals.
There are more shootings and gun fatalities in Chicago than in New York City and Los Angeles combined.
Emanuel’s failed policies have been economically challenging, culturally divisive, and politically untenable. Nevertheless, he remained relatively popular until the last couple of years when the strain of his failures finally started swaying the people against him.
Covid variant BA.5 is spreading. It appears milder but much more contagious and evades natural immunity. Best to boost your immune system with new Z-Dtox and Z-Stack nutraceuticals from our dear friend, the late Dr. Vladimir Zelenko.
Please, stop using the phrase gun violence. There’s no such thing. If you think it exists, then you must admit that fork obesity exists.
