Several conservative publications have been chuckling and cheering as President Trump’s former lawyer and adviser, Michael Cohen, is being investigated for tax fraud with his taxi-medallion business. This is ridiculous for several reasons, but first here’s the background story:
According to the report, investigators are looking into whether Cohen underreported earnings from his taxi-medallion business over the past several years, which could amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The report also said investigators were probing financing of the taxi-medallion business by Sterling National Bank, with the possibility that Cohen overstated his assets in obtaining loans.
Why it’s ridiculous
The former confidant is very likely a dishonest and corrupt person. It’s clear from many of his public dealings that his values are, as Ted Cruz once called it, “New York values.” Why do conservatives cheer? Because they want to paint his allegations and potential testimony against the President as untrustworthy.
Here’s the thing. Trump hired this guy. He liked him. He trusted him. After claiming for years that he only hires the “best people,” we’ve seen time and time again that he does not. Instead, he hires people like Cohen, Paul Manafort, Corey Lewandowski, and his family, all of whom are questionable choices at best.
Stop cheering, Trump supporters. Cohen represents just another example of very poor judgment by the President.
