The California train-to-nowhere has proven once again that incompetent bureaucrats run California. In a recent article by the Fresno Bee, these incompetent bureaucrats have to tear down a bridge that they are building due to safety issues. And the Fresno Bee rightfully states:
“how do we know if anything it has built is safe?. If the rail authority can’t build in the flat lands of the valley, how can they be expected to build safely in the seismic areas of Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area?”
This could have been prevented, and one person that could have stopped this boondoggle is the incumbent Controller and my opponent Betty Yee. Unfortunately, Betty Yee is not interested in protecting taxpayers but protecting her political backers that have filled her campaign war chest with over a million dollars in contributions.
The Controller must protect the taxpayer, and that is why the Controller has independent audit authority and can cut funding when a project or program doesn’t comply with the law; which the HSR project doesn’t comply with Prop. 1A funding parameters requiring 1/3 from the federal government, 1/3 for private investment, and 1/3 from the state.
As Controller, I will investigate and audit this project to expose the waste, fraud, abuse, and corruption and will stop payments until the project complies with the law.
Almost four years in office she has done nothing to protect taxpayers. She has failed to do her job, so much so, that the federal government has begun an audit investigation into this project.
We can’t afford four more years of Betty Yee. It is time to replace her and elect Konstantinos Roditis as California’s next State Controller.
Konstantinos Roditis is a candidate for California State Controller. You can learn more about his campaign at cacontroller.com, and you can follow him on Twitter & Facebook.
Covid variant BA.5 is spreading. It appears milder but much more contagious and evades natural immunity. Best to boost your immune system with new Z-Dtox and Z-Stack nutraceuticals from our dear friend, the late Dr. Vladimir Zelenko.
Wow! Talk about a politically motivated editorial. The Fresno Bee quote is actually from a letter to the editor, not an article in the Fresno Bee. How this issue relates to the Controller’s job is beyond me. The bridge was built without High-Speed Rail’s knowledge. It is the builders fault and that is why it is being torn down. The builder did not use the proper materials as agreed upon in the construction contract. It was noticed upon inspection after it was built. It will be re-built at the builder’s expense. Too bad Mr. Roditis tried to use this to further his campaign and not use the facts!
Well, it is related to the Controller’s job because she has refused to audit this crazy train. It does not comply with the will of the voters. We approved Prop 1A and we expected the train would be funded by 1/3 the state, 1/3 the federal government, and 1/3 private investment. No private investment, the feds stopped funding and are auditing this boondoggle, and should have cost around $35 billion and now it could cost up to $98.1 billion. That includes making large portions of the track not high-speed but only up to 110 mph. From 800-miles of track to 520 miles. Completion date from 2020 to 2033. This does not comply with the will of the voters and Prop 1A, and the Controller should stop payment immediately until it complies with the will of the voters and Prop 1A. But Jeff, I wouldn’t expect you to agree with me since you happen to work for the HSR. Next time don’t use an IP Address that comes up, remote.hsr.ca.gov. We should rather dump this and actually look at technology that isn’t from the 1970s and by your estimations will only help traffic congestion by 1%. We can examine HyperLoop technology that actually has private funding or better yet skyTran technology that can actually help with traffic congestion, reduce pollution, and not need endless government subsidies. You see Jeff, as an actual CEO and CFO in the private sector, I look at how to do things better, faster, and cheaper. I’m not a lifelong bureaucrat like Betty Yee.
I agree with most of what you say but I would characterize what you term as “the will of the people” as the ~mandate~ for the project to move forward, being the constraints under which the directors of the project were instructed by the Voters as conditions and restraints for the very purpose of preventing the multi-billion dollar boondoggle that the project has morphed into.
As for looking at alternative technologies, lets take a hard look at a transportation system that has been in daily reliable operation for more than 50 years and can easily be tweaked with current commercial level engineering and technology to meet the specifications laid down in the measure approved by the voters. I have in mind the Allweig Monorail System which made its demonstration project premiere in the USA in the early 1960s.
Politicians and those with limited imagination have dismissed the system as simply an amusement park ride since the demonstration system was first built as an attraction at Disneyland. The system has proven its reliability, economy, and flexibility by being used as the principal means of transportation at Walt Disney World, connecting multiple hotels to the widely scattered attractions of the area.
We can no longer allow those with limited vision or imagination outside of the area of skimming the maximum amount from a public project for their own private pockets, which a comprehensive audit of the Cal. HSR Project will demonstrate
I live in Anaheim and was a City Commissioner in the city and there was a discussion on the monorail here but I think there is better technology out there that will even work better. So far, I think skyTran is the best solution out there and requires no ongoing public subsidies and is extremely cost effective. Here is the link, check it out: https://vimeo.com/259066254
