Trump attacks “fake news” while promoting state-run media

Published

on

When Donald Trump tweeted a thank-you note yesterday to Rasmussen Reports for what he called their “honest polling” on his job approval, it wasn’t all that surprising because the poll was favorable to the narcissist in chief. Compare that to last year when his approval numbers were historically low and Trump rejected polling, calling the results “fake news.”

Of course, Trump’s fake news spiel is something we’ve been hearing since his days as a candidate when he routinely attacked the First Amendment by threatening to expand libel laws—a promise he renewed a few months ago—to force unfavorable media into silence or else. He even referred to the media as “the enemy of the American people.”

Now that he’s in office, Trump has used the presidency to pick winners and losers in the press based on whether they feed his narcissistic need for attention and admiration.

FOX News has been a major benefactor of Trump’s favorable treatment due to their positive coverage, and they have returned the favor by giving pro-Trump personalities their entire prime-time lineup. We know that Trump routinely gets his morning briefings from FOX & Friends, and we recently learned that Lou Dobbs is a regular participant in staff meetings.

True to his “bigly” nature, however, Trump has been working behind the scenes to create what could be called, for all practical purposes, a Pravda-inspired state-run media.

Back in October, Trump’s FCC made some rule changes that paved the way for a merger between Sinclair and Tribune, which, when approved, will give Sinclair control of over 70 percent of US households. In addition, the FCC eliminated the requirement for TV stations to maintain local studios in the markets where they are licensed. Ultimately, it will be possible for over 70 percent of US households to have their news content centrally controlled in places like New York City and Washington DC.

When Trump ridiculed “Fake News Networks,” he did so in defense of Sinclair Broadcasting—a company with close ties to Trump, Steve Bannon, and Breitbart—ties that have continued into his presidency.

Trump can call any media he wants “Fake News” and he can even blacklist certain media outlets, though, that’s not very wise. But one thing he can’t be allowed to do is abuse the office of the presidency to pick winners and losers in a free market.

And he absolutely, positively isn’t allowed to void the First Amendment by creating a state-run media where the only news we are allowed to receive is the news approved by the Supreme Leader.

Faux conservative media ignores Trump and GOP lies on abortion

Even though Republicans have failed the pro-life litmus test ever since the Republican-nominated Supreme Court decided 46 years ago in Roe v. Wade that women have a Constitutional right to murder their unborn child, they are playing the pro-life card once again for political purposes in preparation for the 2020 election.

This was extremely obvious last month when Mitch McConnell held a show vote on the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act,” a bill introduced by Sen. Ben Sasse mandating medical care for babies that survive the abortion procedure attempted murder.

Like the GOP itself during the past two years of full control of Washington, the bill did nothing to bring an end to abortion. It did, however, give Mitch McConnell and the Republicans a nice political talking point to add to their 2020 election arsenal.

“This stunning, stunning extremism” will not “be the last word on the subject.”

By the way, Republicans played this same game in 2018 — an election year — with a House version of the BAASPA that died in the Senate.

I wrote last week about BlazeTV and how it had become a pro-Trump echo chamber and home of faux conservatives. In the piece, I mentioned an episode of Steve Deace’s show where he pointed out the Democrats’ “worship of abortion” and called on conservatives to “cheer” Donald Trump because he was using late-term abortion as a campaign issue.

In a rebuttal on his show the day after my article, Deace and his crew accused me of being in the “orange man bad” anti-Trump cult where criticism of Trump is only happens because we’re talking about Trump. Aside from the obvious attempt to dismiss my opinion without addressing it, my conclusions were based on Trump’s non-conservative policies, his track record of doublemindedness and broken promises regarding abortion, and BlazeTV’s decision to promote Trump as the savior of the Republic.

Yes, the Democrat party is the party of abortion and infanticide. Heck, the party’s 2016 platform championed Planned Parenthood and promised to protect government funding of their infanticide services. The platform also called for Democrats to overturn “all federal and state laws that impede a woman’s access to abortion, including repealing of the Hyde Amendment.”

The Democrat-controlled House has begun working on ways to repeal the Hyde Amendment. Claiming to possess a “pro-choice majority,” they are looking to find new ways for public funds to be used to murder the unborn, including coverage for abortions under Medicaid along with mandating abortion coverage under other government healthcare plans.

Here’s a fun fact: the much-ballyhooed Medicare for All single-payer healthcare plan being promoted by nearly every Democrat presidential candidate and some “conservative socialists” mandates coverage for abortion services. Once we have single-payer, every American will be funding the murder of unborn babies. Look for it to be included in the 2020 Democrat platform.

So, this means Deace was right about the Democrats, right? Yes, but he and others in the faux conservative media have turned this reality into a “squirrel moment” to distract voters away from the hypocrisy and lies we get from Trump — and by default, the GOP — on the abortion issue. Pointing to the obvious extremism of the Democrat Party while giving Trump a pass on abortion and “cheering” him for using it as a political weapon to get re-elected is nothing more than another edition of the #notDemocrat game we get from the GOP every election season.

Democrats haven’t had to worry about keeping their platform promise to protect Planned Parenthood because Trump and the GOP have been keeping that promise for them by not only continuing their funding, but increasing it. They have also increased funding for harvesting body parts from aborted babies for research purposes, included experiments using human fetal tissue on mice — tissue that comes from Planned Parenthood.

Democrats are pro-abortion to the extreme and Republicans are no different. But the GOP gets to hide behind the cover of a so-called conservative media that is all too willing to play the deceptive #notDemocrat game while “cheering” Trump and the GOP for tickling their ears.

First they came for the gun owners….

First they came for the gun owners

…but I didn’t say anything because I didn’t own a gun.

One of the more infuriating aspects of the Left’s game of denying reality with their little ‘That wasn’t really socialism’ is that there are distinct parallels between their agenda and that of other socialist nations, past and present. They all have a similar process of imposing socialistic slavery with a specific national agenda. A key part being the deprivation of the means of self-defense to their citizens and those who posses these means.

Denying the right of self-defense is a fundamental aspect of socialism

It is a fact of history that gun confiscation is an integral part of implementing of a socialist national agenda. The USSR required the people to turn in their guns, as did the German national socialist worker’s party. As was Fidel Castro’s response in the question of whether the people should have guns as or the United Socialist Party of Venezuela confiscating guns from the people for their own safety, of course.

These have all taken place at the onset of socialistic slavery, but somehow the new version isn’t the same because reasons. Leftists aren’t really trying to set up a governmental monopoly on the use of force, they are just trying to protect the children* [ *unborn and under 9 months old excluded ]. Even though it has been proven time and again that their repression of Liberty does not work as advertised.

The liberty grabber left is now celebrating the destruction of basic civil liberties

Where this subject not so deadly serious, it would be comical to still witness leftists parroting the ‘No one is talking about gun confiscation’ or a variant thereof. Meanwhile they can scarcely contain themselves in the glee over New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern seizing on their ‘serious crisis’ to confiscate guns with tweets looking to replicate the destruction of a basic human right in the states.

It is more than a coincidence that the tempo of the drum beat for liberty control has increased while the ideological fraud of socialism is being forced on the people. After a long winded piece gloating about leftist victories over liberty, an opinion piece in Bloomberg has even suggested that Chief Justice John Roberts seize on the serious crisis in New Zealand, using it to destroy this basic civil liberty.

Citizens turned into subjects with a change in the relationship between the people and the government

The genius of the founding fathers is that they recognized that down through history, people have had varying relationships with government. In most cases it was one of the government having a monopoly on the use of force. On occasion the people would challenge this monopoly and change the government, but only after an ensuing orgy of carnage and death.

The founders set forth a new paradigm, that of government by the consent of the people with a semblance of parity via a distributed ability to use force. The nation’s Socialist-Left would like to change or ‘reform’ that paradigm back to the old-fashioned version of the government being the sole purveyor of force. Please note that we are dispensing with the tired old line of the left that this is not what they want. They have made this quite clear over the past few years to the point that anyone that is informed of the issue recognizes that this is just another lie on their part.

“He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression.” – Thomas Paine

Relegating gun owners to 2nd class citizenship

Those of us who haven’t traded, sold or lost all of our guns in a boating accident are a persecuted class these days. The situation is much akin to a baseball pitching machine throwing fastballs over and over again without let-up. With all kinds of new laws being proposed at state and federal levels that range from invasive Intergalactic Background Checks, liability insurance requirements, gun registration and of course, gun confiscation SWATing legislation.

The destruction of basic civil liberties will only begin with gun owners

Every citizen of the nation is protected with basic Constitutional principles and civil rights including due process, the presumption of innocence and the right to face one’s accuser.

The gun owner has been excluded from these basic civil liberties in some states, and if the liberty grabbers had their way, such would be the case nationwide. With just the flimsiest insinuation of being ‘dangerous’ a gun owner [or those who are merely accused of being a gun owner] will be subjected to gun confiscation raid from the authorities.

This will be just the beginning of the ordeal – if they survive the SWAT team coming at 5:00 AM without warning. Our 2nd class citizen will have to prove they aren’t ‘dangerous’ after they have effectively found guilty in a star chamber. It will only be after spending thousands of dollars in legal fees that they may get their property back in less than stellar condition. The trend is to set gun owners below the legal status of accused criminals in the eyes of the justice system.

We’re just starting on the slippery slope

Fresh from their moves against the basic human right of self-preservation, the chief censor of the government of New Zealand has arbitrarily decided that certain ideas are beyond the pale, sparking a debate over free speech as reported by the Associated Press. This of course is another ongoing controversy in the states over the issue of political correctness and ‘Hate speech’. This shows that isn’t just about ‘military style assault weapons’ or whatever is the phrase at the moment, this is a question of liberty, something the people who use a similar sounding label used to pretend to support.

Make no mistake, the legislative mechanisms and regulations used to deprive gun owners of their commonsense human and civil rights will be used on others if they are allowed to stand. A civil liberties group in California made the point that one doesn’t have to be a gun owner to be subjected to gun confiscation SWATing. If they can go after the property of a gun owner in one instance, because they don’t like their attitude, what’s to stop them from going after a journalist or other type of activist? These orders only have to allege someone is dangerous with little evidence, much less proof that they own a gun. What’s to stop them from deciding free-speech is dangerous or ‘offensive’ necessitating that their computers or cell phones should be seized – at gunpoint no less?

The Takeaway

The whole point of the ‘first they came for’ series is that authoritarians rarely go after everyone at once. They are very careful in picking their targets for their oppression with the tactic of divide and conquer. Today it’s the people who own guns, tomorrow it will be those who don’t conform to the precepts of ‘political correctness’.

This is why President John F. Kennedy stated that: “The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.”

This is why everyone should be concerned at the headlong rush to denigrate the right of self-defense. And why everyone should be horrified that the government could even consider jettisoning the basic civil liberty of due process and the presumption of innocence. The loss of basic civil rights for some will mean the loss for everyone.

True conservatism must be discerning outside of tribal loyalty

True conservatism must be discerning outside of tribal loyalty

One of the loneliest things to be in the world of politics is a conservative who does not bow down to President Trump. What’s even worse is being someone whose allegiance to the Constitution, conservatism, faith, family, and the truth supersedes personal feelings, which is why I have no problem praising the President when he does well. This, of course, makes me a target for the NeverTrumpers and Democrats.

I call it how I see it. When he does well, I praise him and/or his policies. When he does poorly, I criticize. That means, as my friend from Hawaii notes, I’m an “equal opportunity offender.”

As an ardent supporter of border security, people often assume I’m a big Trump fan. While I appreciate the President’s recent attempts to force Congress to fund the wall, I’m equally disappointed that he waited so long. It’s an inconvenient fact his hardcore supporters love to omit that he signed 11 spending deals before “getting tough” once the Democrats took control of the House of Representatives. That same toughness applied at any point in the previous two years would have had a much higher chance of resulting in wall funding. Before the midterm elections in 2018, he held some sway over red state Democrats in the Senate, possibly enough to get the 60 votes he needed to get his funding.

Unfortunately, we’ll never know.

On the other hand, I don’t blame the President alone for his misstep. I’m certain his advisers and others in his ear, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, White House Senior Adviser Jared Kushner, and several others told the President it would be best to have the battle after the midterms because shutting down the government and playing hardball before the midterms meant they would lose the House and possibly even the Senate. Hindsight being 20/20, it would seem the two-year delay on having the wall funding battle was all for naught. He ended up getting to the exact place he would have been, but at least a year later before getting to start the judiciary clock on his national emergency.

One can argue Obamacare repeal and tax cuts were a bigger priority early on. Fine. Then the wall battle should have started with the first spending bill of 2018 following the tax cut victory and Obamacare repeal debacle.

The reason I’m bringing all of this up now is because it’s time for real conservatives to set aside any tribal allegiances they have and start focusing on steering things in the right direction. Just as we’ve seen the Justice Democrats plant hyper-leftist operatives in the Democratic Party, so too should we be working towards getting real conservatives in office instead of the fake conservatives, aka RINOs, that have control over the GOP.

It’s not just about primary challenges for the weak sticks up for election in 2020. It’s also about steering the President himself in the right direction. We’ve called in the past for the President to remove all leftists from his administration, but let’s face it. That’s not going to happen. What CAN happen is we can generate noise so loud he’s unable to not hear it. This noise can be similar to the backlash he received during the general election when someone in his campaign told him he should consider “softening” his stance on illegal immigrants. He even had a prime time special with Sean Hannity to try to sell “The Softening” to people back in August, 2016.

What happened? Conservatives said, “H— no!” As a result, he switched back to the tough stance that won him the GOP nomination in the first place. Conservatism won because conservative voices were loud enough to keep him from listening to his leftist advisers.

I would argue if there had been even louder voices yelling in unison for the President to fight for border wall funding in the beginning of 2018 rather than waiting until after the GOP lost control of the House of Representatives, we’d already have solid funding from Congress that was well on its way towards getting large portions of the wall and other border security measures built up. Instead, we’re relying on a lengthy process that will certainly shut down wall funding until hopefully the Supreme Court sides with him. In a world in which John Roberts is the Chief Justice and 5th “conservative” vote, I’d say we’re at about 50/50 on actually getting the action on the President’s national emergency declaration.

This is why we’re building the American Conservative Movement. It is not anti-Trump. It is not pro-Trump. It is not anti-GOP or pro-GOP. It’s definitely anti-leftist which makes it anti-Democrat based on the progressive lurch to the left we’re seeing in that party. But above all it’s a pro-Constitution, pro-American, pro-conservatism PAC that will promote conservative candidates, policies, and philosophies.

We’ve seen what happened to the Tea Party. It had no central leadership and very little solidarity in the way it wanted to operate. To call it an “it” is a stretch since the Tea Party manifested in some good, mostly bad organizations that competed with each other to raise funds from patriots who were concerned about President Obama and Obamacare, among other things. Sadly, it has become a shadow of an entity with no foundation left from which to launch any serious candidates.

We’ve also seen what happens with third parties. In fact, I made an effort to help build one. But the path of a third party is one that will take longer than the months or years that we have before real action is needed. Just as the Justice Democrats were able to make an impact in less than a year, so too will the American Conservative Movement seek to make a similar impact in the GOP for America.

If this sounds interesting at all, I encourage you to fill out the form below. We need to see how many people are interested in moving forward with something of this scale before undertaking it. Experience is the best teacher, and I’ve learned many lessons over the years about how to build and maintain a movement that can make a difference.

There has never been a greater need for a conservative renaissance in America. A quick look at Congress will tell you both parties are lurching to the left. It’s time to pull back to the right.
