Rich Lowry on Dick Durbin’s desire to make a DACA deal work

Rich Lowry on Dick Durbins desire to make a DACA deal work

Based upon Senator Dick Durbin’s actions the last few days regarding President Trump’s “s***hole” comments, one would think his intention was to derail talks and have a valid reason to blame Republicans in general and Trump in particular. If he really wanted a DACA deal, wouldn’t he have handled it differently?

JD Rucker had some thoughts on this:

Trump was wrong to say what he said. Durbin was wrong to reveal it.

http://noqreport.com/2018/01/12/trump-wrong-say-said-durbin-wrong-reveal/Durbin crossed that line. He took comments that paint the entire country through the President himself in a way that harms our ability to work with other nations. He wasn’t championing the nations Trump spoke out about. He had a single intention: harm.

Will this help with negotiations? Possibly, but at what cost?

National Review’s Rich Lowry wasn’t quite as accusatory, but he did question Durbin’s motives and whether or not he really wanted to make a DACA deal happen. Perhaps he was just greatly offended. Then again, perhaps he was just being a politician. Here’s Lowry’s quote:

“Everyone seems to think that Durbin really wants a deal, which makes it weird that he has gone out of his way to blow up the s***hole meeting.”

Trump’s “Shithole” Comments, DACA & Political Fallout

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/455430/trump-shithole-comments-daca-political-falloutOne benefit of a merit-based system is that it would move us away from special ethnic pleading in immigration policy. The visa lottery began as affirmative action for Irish immigrants. My understanding is that Dick Durbin said in the meeting that he wanted to preserve the visa lottery in a slightly changed form because the Congressional Black Caucus wanted it. This is not how we should be making decisions about who comes here and who doesn’t.

Ben Shapiro’s reaction to Michael Avenatti’s video is perfect

Ben Shapiros reaction to Michael Avenattis video is perfect

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro normally uses his intellect and debate skills to make leftists look bad. He calls out their hypocrisy, lack of logic, and disdain for America in ways that few can match.

Sometimes, he just lets leftists  do all the talking, which usually makes his point.

Michael Avenatti, the lawyer who represents Stormy Daniels and Julie Swetnick, took to the airwaves to express his displeasure with President Trump for calling his client a “horseface.” Shapiro couldn’t stop laughing at the horrid display of silliness by someone who wants to be President of the United States.

This guy is cold and comical. He’s the perfect nominee for Democrats in 2020. When poor judgment mixes with leftist triggering, you get #horseface-opposition videos like these. Trump vs Avenatti in 2020 would be epic.

Polls show tighter Senate race in Tennessee

Polls show tighter Senate race in Tennessee

Republican Marsh Blackburn and Democrat Phil Bredesen are in a very tight race according to the most recent poll. Vanderbilt University’s poll is contrary to previous polls showing Blackburn ahead by a good margin. In the Vanderbilt poll, Bredesen actually has a 1-point lead.

Two big stories over the last couple of weeks could be firing up voters. First, singer Taylor Swift came out to address younger voters and encourage them to vote for Bredesen. Then, Project Veritas released a video showing Bredesen staffers and volunteers claiming Bredesen lied about his willingness to vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh.

Phil Bredesen tripped up while lying to get Republican votes

http://noqreport.com/2018/10/11/phil-bredesen-tripped-lying-get-republican-votes/His announcement of supporting confirmation after-the-fact was intended to build support in a state that overwhelmingly voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and backed Kavanaugh’s confirmation. While it may have pulled some people off the fence to land on his side of the tight race, it also made others skeptical about his honesty while alienating a large part of his base.

It isn’t just his base that should worry him. Even campaign volunteers are upset by the announcement.

My Take

This should be a wake up call to Republicans who have been reading too many polls lately. Momentum has been on the GOP’s side ever since the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation, but as many predicted, the news cycle has already shifted. If Republicans hope to keep control of the Senate, they’ll need their voters to be engaged and, frankly, scared.

Passion and fear drive casual midterm voters. Many will still stay home, especially if they think their candidates are going to win without them. Don’t let complacency put more Democrats on Capitol Hill.

PragerU: What’s wrong with government-run healthcare?

PragerU Whats wrong with government-run healthcare

This latest video from PragerU details how another vote-buying pipe dream from the Left can never work.

A new video from PragerU features policy expert Lanhee Chen from the Hoover Institution at Stanford, who explains how ‘Free Healthcare’ can never work in the real world. As is the case with most Leftist vote-buying schemes, the ‘The Medicare for all’ fiction is long on promises and short on how it will be funded. The tax burden for such a scheme would destroy the economy and would have to be levied on almost everyone. This kind of national socialized healthcare would also take away the incentive for innovation, which has made for the best healthcare system in the states and the rest of the world.

One often suspects that these assurances of freebies are never meant to operate as promised. Witness the much vaunted Obamacare that was supposed to eliminate the uninsured, but did nothing of the sort. Such is also the case with their push for Liberty control, since it never works as advertised.  In most cases, it should be apparent that the Left doesn’t care if their schemes will work or not. If they did actually care, they would try something else, something that actually works.

For the Left, their ‘Ends justifies the means’ mantra extends to most of their agenda. It doesn’t matter if their system of societal slavery works or not, only that it brings them the power they crave.
