Mainstream media can pretend all it wants that it’s unbiased, but the facts don’t lie regardless of how they try to spin them. A Pew Research Center study concluded that in the first 60 days of Donald Trump’s presidency, only 1 in 20 stories about him were positive.
A third of the coverage was considered neither positive nor negative, which left 62% as negative. Even George W. Bush, fresh off a contested race with Al Gore over the “hanging chads” in Florida, only had 28% negative coverage, equal to Bill Clinton’s. Barack Obama enjoyed the most media love from the start with a mere 1 in 5 stories with negative sentiment.
This goes against the narrative that mainstream media promotes saying they’re assessing the President. They’re not. Instead, they started off with preconceived notions and have shifted their responses to him to match this worldview. If we assume that Fox News accounted for most of the positive coverage, that means that a tiny fraction of the 5% positive coverage could have possibly come from the other mainstream media sources.
They didn’t like him from the start and they like him even less today.
Here’s the breakdown from Washington Examiner:
Pew: Trump media three times more negative than for Obama, just 5 percent positive
The Pew Research Center said that the early coverage of Trump was 62 percent negative. By comparison, Obama’s coverage was just 20 percent negative.
“About six-in-ten stories on Trump’s early days in office had a negative assessment, about three times more than in early coverage for Obama and roughly twice that of Bush and Clinton. Coverage of Trump’s early time in office moved further away from a focus on the policy agenda and more toward character and leadership,” said Pew.
My Take
As I’ve made perfectly clear multiple times, I’m not a Trump fan. I do, however, treat him fairly by giving kudos when he does well while equally pointing out when he does poorly. That’s what reporting the news is all about. Most in mainstream media seem to have forgotten this if they ever knew it at all. Instead, they feel it’s their duty to change hearts and minds against him regardless of how he benefits the nation.
Covid variant BA.5 is spreading. It appears milder but much more contagious and evades natural immunity. Best to boost your immune system with new Z-Dtox and Z-Stack nutraceuticals from our dear friend, the late Dr. Vladimir Zelenko.
Perhaps Trump had lower media ratings because he had just finished perhaps the most dishonest and insulting presidential campaign in history.
Perhaps Trump’s bragging about his abuse of women during the campaign was deemed not praiseworthy.
Perhaps Trump’s manipulation of the GOP converntione followed by his rearding Priebus for his assistance with a WH appointment was not deemed praisworthy.
Perhaps Trump’s continued insults of other Republicans and his frequent appeals to Russia to hack and release DNC emails was not deemed praiseworthy.
Perhaps Trump’s attacks on the press and both Congress and the Judicial Branches of our government were not deemed praiseworthy of the President of the US.
Perhaps Trump’s open advocating for trade wars, Nuclear Conflict with NK and selling the services of the US mlitary to the nation with the highest bid was not deemed praisworthy.
Perhaps Trump’s insults to the Jewish people, claiming the Western Wall was not in Israeil or his refusal to move our Embassy (He recently signed the waiver for yet another 6-month delay) is not praiseworthy.
Perhaps Trump’s support of Planned Parenthood or his desire to “take care of” Dreamers by meeting with Pelosi & Schumer instead of Republicans was not praiseworthy.
Trump has demonstrated over and over that he has no morals, no ethics, and no control over his mouth or his emotions. He has also lacked the intelligence and common sense to be Chief Executive and has frequently expressed his admiration for dictatorships around the world – especially for Putin and the way Putin rules in Russia.
Put away your Trump pom-poms and stop pretending Trump is being unfailrly picked on because the RESULTS of his campaign and questionable ethics followed him into office and were reflected in the media coverage he received. When the President picks fights wit the media, always being the first to attack the media, he should not be surprised when or if the media gives hime negative coverage.
When the President demonstrates a foul mouth, abusive personality and general lack of intelligence, maturity and fitness to lead, he should NOT be praised to the skies because he was better at manipulating a corrupt party than “the other guy”.
