One time radio personality turned TV game show announcer (and then some) Rod Roddy made a famous remark just before he would succeed Johnny Olson (he passed in 1985) as the voice of the long-running The Price Is Right during Bob Barker’s 35-year run from 1986 until his death in 2003. Here is the remark; “If You want to be a contestant on “Hit Man,” Forget It.” “Hit Man” was a short-lived game show that took the concept of the high school pop quiz and applied it to the TV game show. Host Peter Tomarken would present a short and but entertaining lecture on a subject, after which Tomarken himself would quiz the contestants on what was presented. In spite of the Space Invaders theme to the game show, “Hit Man” was a flop but has become a cult favorite thanks to you YouTube and the few fans that have kept the show alive. However, Tomarken and Roddy found work quickly with the duo in their respective roles on “Press Your Luck” and Roddy also was the first voice of Love Connection during the Chuck Woolery era. It was his role on “Press Your Luck” however that impressed the suits at CBS and Roddy got job security long after Tomarken and even PYL’s Whammy had to look for new gigs.
I want to get to Roddy’s ‘Hit Man’ remark now and apply it to something else. If your planning to rely on Social Security after you retire, forget it. In the new PragerU video hosted by Chris Hogan, he pointed out the money that went into Social Security could not be collected until you reached 65 years of age when the government program was first enacted. The life expectancy during the 1930’s was 60 years of age. In other words’, most people passed away before they could get one dime out of Social Security
So the government could lock all that money into a so-called ‘trust fund.” In reality, they just spend it on other government expenses and other entitlement programs which is not pointed out by Hogan but I will. Life expectancy has increased, but Social Security has yet to be tamed. Sadly, progressive activist groups like the AARP will eventually bring about Social Security’s demise and leave the Gen X’s, Gen Y’s and those who will succeed them holding the bag.
Social Security was created behind the scenes as a wealth redistribution scam. If FDR had any good intentions (which I believe he did not) we are on the highway to hell for sure now. Hogan also presents private solutions for those who plan to retire regardless of what age you are and not just “feeding the pig.” If Social Security can’t ever be reformed because of political pressure, the cultural and political consequences will be catastrophic as it was when Rome finally took its fall.
I heard that the red Whammy got long-term job security in our government. No need to wait for someone to land on his space to strike. Did the Whammy become an IRS agent? Who knows but hey it’s just a rumor (lol). He did say one time he would “raise taxes on us” if he was elected. Hey, why run for office if you can become a bureaucrat instead?
Covid variant BA.5 is spreading. It appears milder but much more contagious and evades natural immunity. Best to boost your immune system with new Z-Dtox and Z-Stack nutraceuticals from our dear friend, the late Dr. Vladimir Zelenko.
