Controversy has surrounded Roy Moore for decades. The “Ten Commandments Judge” in Alabama is running for Senate and finds his biggest roadblock isn’t his competitor or the Democratic Party but four accusers, the Washington Post, and the Republican Establishment.
The first two make absolute sense. Those who Moore allegedly sexually abused and/or had inappropriate relationships with when they were teens will certainly oppose his candidacy whether the allegations are true or not. If they’re true, they don’t want the man who hurt them to be a United States Senator. If they’re fabricated, it behooves them to make their stories stick. The exact same scenario surrounds the Washington Post which broke the story. Whether true or false, it’s in their best interests to validate the story and all its details.
The GOP Establishment may seem like the oddball in the group, but that’s only on the surface. Many if not most Republicans in DC have been uncomfortable with Moore’s brand of Christian conservative politics. He has said and done things they believe do not belong in DC politics or representing the Republican Party. He makes them look like phonies when he’s genuinely fighting the good fight.
Would this bias against him make them willing to lose a seat of their razor-thin majority? Apparently, yes. Rather than promoting pragmatism and waiting for the facts to emerge from both sides, the reactions were so fast and plentiful one might even think the Washington Post coordinated with Republican leadership.

They didn’t, of course. This was a simple case of a narrative being spread throughout the party very quickly once the news broke. One can tell by the similarities in their responses that they knew how to properly react to the alleged crimes. The quick responses demonstrate a proper unity in voice but are also troubling because only one Senator, Ted Cruz, offered a modicum of sensible caution before embracing the narrative. He asked that we hear Moore’s side of the story.
“These are serious and troubling allegations,” Cruz said. “If they are true, Judge Moore should immediately withdraw. However, we need to know the truth, and Judge Moore has the right to respond to these accusations.”
Mitch McConnell and his cronies were instantaneous in calling for Moore to step down if the accusations are true. Other than Cruz, none of them insinuated that there may be another side to the story. Some, such as moderate Rob Portman, embraced the stories completely.
He said, “It was very troubling … if what we read is true and people are on the record so I assume it is…” Moore should step aside.
Citizens are entitled to such snap judgments. Our representatives must have restraint until sufficient facts are known. One article is not sufficient, especially when Moore has only released a short statement in response. The GOP Establishment knows this, but have chosen to eliminate one of their problems before he gets bigger.
GOP Responses
How Republicans responded to Roy Moore sexual assault allegations
Roy Moore, Alabama’s Republican nominee for Senate, was accused of sexually assaulting a woman when she was 14 years old. And now Republicans are rebuking Moore after the allegations of sexual assault and calling on him to leave the race if the allegations are true.
Why it matters: An Alabama elections spokesperson said it’s “too late” for Moore to be removed from the ballot, but the statements from Republicans suggest they don’t want him running and that he could add a negative image to their party.

The rush of Senate RINO’s (FIXED) coming out quickly to denounce Roy Moore is convincing Moore supporters that this is a coordinated hit job
