Disgraced Hollywood mogul and sexual predator Harvey Weinstein is expected to be indicted next week by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office for allegedly raping Paz de la Huerta twice in 2010. The actress is one of dozens of women who have accused Weinstein of sex-related crimes in recent weeks.
There’s a small wrinkle in the story that doesn’t have to do with Weinstein himself. Apparently, there’s bad blood between NYPD and the DA’s office over the botched investigation of Weinstein in 2015. Both law enforcement wings blamed the other for not being able to tie Weinstein to crimes based upon accusations by Italian model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez in 2015. As a result of the bad blood, the police claim they’re waiting for District Attorney Cy Vance to issue a warrant while the DA’s office says they’re taking the case before a grand jury first.
Manhattan DA to seek Weinstein indictment as early as next week
Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said last week the department is sharing information with DA Cy Vance’s office and the next step would be to obtain an arrest warrant to pick up Weinstein in Arizona, where he is in rehab.
There has been bad blood between the two law enforcement arms since each blamed the other for botching a 2015 case against Weinstein based on allegations by an Italian model — and the DA’s office was irate when police officials last week told the press that they were just waiting on Vance to come through with the warrant, a source said.
Despite the conflict between the NYPD and the DA’s office, they are expected to pull it all together next week with an indictment. It’s likely they will then go to collect Weinstein from the rehab clinic he’s currently at in Arizona.
