12 counts: Will Manafort also turn in Democrat super-lobbyist Tony Podesta?

Published

on

As CNN reported, based on a leak from Robert Mueller’s special counsel office, there was an indictment in the Russia probe unsealed today. And to nobody’s surprise, Paul Manafort and Rick Gates, one a former Trump campaign manager, the other a political and business associate of Trump’s, were ordered to surrender to federal authorities.

What’s next?

Certainly, investigators will interview and take depositions from both men. They will present the men (and their lawyers) with the indictment and the charges against them. A federal prosecutor will set the time for an arraignment with a judge, and the case will proceed with pleas and opening motions. The wheels of justice churn like a grist mill.

The charges

The 12 counts include two conspiracy charges, money laundering, acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign principal, false and misleading FARA statements, false statements and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign banks and financial accounts. These are all financial crimes for the most part, and they have little bearing on the Trump campaign’s Russia ties.

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/10/30/report-paul-manafort-rick-gates-to-surrender-to-special-counsel.htmlFormer Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his associate Rick Gates have been indicted by a federal grand jury Monday on 12 counts, according to the special counsel’s office. Manafort and Gates face the first charges in the special counsel’s investigation. This is also the first time the special counsel’s office has confirmed that a grand jury has been impaneled.

Tony Podesta’s problem

Manafort may provide ammunition for Mueller in his expanded investigation of Democratic super-lobbyist Tony Podesta, who has ties to various congressional Democrats and Bill Clinton.

The very charges against Manafort go to the heart of the Podesta link. In his work for the Ukraine, Manafort set up a group called European Centre for a Modern Ukraine (ECMU), which used Podesta’s lobbying group. These bear directly on the indictments, and could spell trouble for Democrats. Of course, the DNC, neck-deep in every part of the Russia connection, from the “dossier” to “fake news” and lying about it, denies any knowledge of anything.

Manafort To Turn Himself In To Feds | The Daily Caller

Gates is a longtime associate of Manafort and serves as his junior partner at his firm. Gates became a point of interest in the investigation into Mueller after investigators found Gates name on documents linking Manafort’s firm to offshore companies that received payments from Eastern European politicians and businessmen.

Mueller Now Investigating Democratic Lobbyist Tony Podesta – NBC News

Willful failure to file the forms is a felony and can result in up to five years in prison, though such prosecutions are rare.

The Podesta Group amended its FARA registration to accurately reflect its work with ECMU only after the payments were reported by the media. Manafort’s firm also filed a FARA registration after media reports in June disclosed its work in Ukraine from 2012 through 2014.

Are Dems As In-The-Dark As They Claim? | The Daily Caller

http://dailycaller.com/2017/10/29/what-did-dems-know-about-dossier-their-handling-of-imran-awan-affair-is-instructive/The denial is reminiscent of Ellison’s claims to have not heard of Democratic IT aide Imran Awan, despite being repeatedly informed of the major investigation involving him. In both the Awan and dossier affairs, Democratic leaders have said they did not have knowledge of major events that greatly concern them. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi professed unfamiliarity with the Awan investigation despite playing an important role in the handling of the case months ago as one of the House leaders who determined it warranted a criminal probe.

Final thoughts

This is just the beginning. But a few thoughts here.

For one thing, as Erick Erickson notes, we need to be careful in our assumptions. At this point, it doesn’t appear that the charges against Manafort are directly related to anything he did with the Trump campaign. Though the investigation was spurred on by the president’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey, that angle led to these charges against Manafort, who we all knew had Russian problems before he was hired by Trump. (I’m sure Manafort will pass his exceeding thanks for the jail sentence on to Trump, if he’s not pardoned.)

Another thing, is that we know the Democrats and the swamp-rats all over K-street have their paw prints on this whole Russia thing. If Mueller is just making his mark with these two indictments and then closing shop, Trumpists will hail it as exoneration (but it’s not really), while Democrats will howl that there’s no justice but in fact be relieved and use it to raise badly-needed cash.

But if more Trump-related charges come forth, without anything on the Democrat side, then perhaps Joe Cunningham has a point. Mueller could be either a Democrat operative or a Republican hack. If the investigation drones on without any further findings (a la Ken Starr), that might do more to exonerate Trump than anything (plus Republicans can raise funds off it).

What this ultimately does teach us is that both Democrats and Republicans are as swampy and dirty on this as they can get. And the Russians are laughing at us.

Illegal alien Billy Chemirmir charged in 12 murders, was never ordered for deportation

Illegal alien Billy Chemirmir charged in 12 murders was never ordered for deportation

It may be more difficult than it should be to deport illegal immigrants in America, but when they are convicted of crimes, it’s a realistic expectation that they should be deported, especially when they’re arrested in a state like Texas. But that wasn’t the case with Billy Chemirmir who was arrested four times without deportation. Now, he’s being charged with a dozen murders.

The 46-year-old Kenyan national had been arrested for DWI twice, criminal trespassing, and domestic assault, yet he was not deported. His last arrest in 2018 was for murder. Now, 11 more charges have been handed to him, all surrounding the murders of elderly women.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) told The Daily Caller that an immigration detainer for Chemirmir was filed with Dallas County Jail in March 2018, but that he’s not currently in the agency’s custody.

Opinion

I’m truly at a loss for words on this case. It’s not like he was hiding under a rock, undetected by law enforcement. It’s not like they didn’t know he was an illegal immigrant. And it’s not like this happened in a sanctuary city. This happened in Texas. He was arrested four times. Yet he was still allowed to roam, work, and allegedly commit murder.

It’s important to note that this is not a case of our porous southern border. Records are unclear of how he came to live and work in America in the first place, but if it was another case of visa overstay, then this will be a slightly different case than we’ve seen in recent weeks. He wasn’t a gang member who came over with migrants. This goes to show that those in the country illegally all need to be examined more closely. We have enough issues with citizens committing crimes. We don’t need even more criminals on the streets.

Quote

“This guy should’ve been detected but wasn’t. In our case, they had him just wandering around the apartment for three hours.” – Richard Arnold, Lawyer for a Victim’s Family

Final Thoughts

If we aren’t deporting illegal immigrants who have been arrested four times in Texas, how can we expect any criminal illegal aliens to be deported? The system is broken. We need to rethink everything about immigration.

President Trump affirms abortion exceptions for rape, incest, and life of the mother

President Trump affirms abortion exceptions for rape incest and life of the mother

Following last week’s fury over the Alabama abortion bill that essentially bans abortion in all cases other than a threat to the life of mother, President Trump has weighed in. While not addressing the bill directly, he still declared his stance on abortion and called for voters to stand with him to protect life.

Opinion

Our EIC noted a couple of days ago that belief that life begins at conception means being an abortion absolutist that backs the Alabama law. I tend to agree, which is why I believe we have to classify the President’s remarks as a secular belief in the sanctity of life. When we insert our human morality into the equation, it becomes a moral issue to want exceptions.

That’s fine. There may be bickering over who may actually be pro-choice based on their perspectives, but from a political perspective we need to make sure we keep our eyes on the big picture. We want Roe v. Wade to be overturned. Then, the states can decide how they want to handle the “healthcare” issue of abortion.

The rest is part of the cultural battle against abortions. This is why I’ve said many times in the past that we have to view this as a multi-front battle. We have the political front, and that’s going to be ever-changing. But we also have the cultural front in which we have to make decisions about how we view the life within the mother, whether from a religious or moral perspective. The third front is the scientific arena which has been quickly shifting away from the pro-abortion world to vindicating past claims pro-lifers have been making for decades.

The President’s stance, while not perfectly aligned with mine, is still exponentially better than anything the entirety of the Democratic Party is putting forth. What’s worse is that their candidates are pushing radical abortion ideas.

Quote

“If we believe the miracle of life begins when a human is conceived, then we must defend that life as a fellow creation of God regardless of the circumstances. Then, we must do everything in our power to aid the mother through the challenges she and her child will face.” – JD Rucker

Final Thoughts

We can bicker over the extent that pro-life laws should block abortions, but the general direction of overturning Roe v. Wade should allow conservatives to walk along the same path. We can discuss details afterwards.

‘Serial rapist’ DREAMer Carlos Eduardo confesses to Houston area sexual assaults

Serial rapist DREAMer Carlos Eduardo confesses to Houston area sexual assaults

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals executive order by President Obama has a new set of victims as a Houston man has confessed to two rapes and one attempted rape.

Carlos Eduardo, 18, confessed to following women home from a 24-hour gym, then forcing them by gunpoint into his car. He would then drive them to an isolated location and sexually assault them, according to police.

“He would sit in the parking lot and watch them walk to their cars,” said Chief Josh Bruegger from the Pasadena Police Department.

An anonymous tip led police to Eduardo’s conspicuous lime green Ford Mustang. It appeared he was attempting to change the appearance of the vehicle after CCTV video was released with his vehicle visible.

Opinion

One would be hard pressed to find a mainstream media report even mentioning Eduardo’s immigration status. The left is losing the narrative on the border crisis and other elements of the illegal immigration problem, so the last thing they want to lose is the final remnant of positive credibility they have with DACA.

In other words, they need the perceptions of DREAMers to stay clean.

To be fair, the rates of crimes committed by DREAMers is not noticeably higher than crimes committed by American citizens in the same age groups and locations, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’ve increased crime levels by virtue of their presence in America. Currently, there’s nothing that can be done to demonstrate how crime rates can be reduced because DREAMers are at the bottom of the priority list for most opponents of illegal immigration.

And maybe that’s how it should be.

I’d almost be willing to forget about DACA altogether if we could simply stop the flow of illegal immigrants currently entering the country. Almost. People like Eduardo are a stark reminder that not all DREAMers are innocent, worthy contributors to American society.

Quote

“I believe this was the beginning of a serial rapist. We have three cases. Any time you have that, it scares the community, and it should. That’s really why I wanted this to be a priority. I have a wife, I have daughters; this is the last thing you want out there is a serial rapist on the streets.” – Chief Josh Bruegger

Final Thoughts

This is just another angle of the multi-headed monster of illegal immigration. Border security, asylum loopholes, visa overstays, and the lack of a wall are all problems, but let’s not forget DACA still looms over America.
