House of Cards fans may have been disappointed by the last season (Metacritic scored it a 60 after 4 seasons at 76 or above), but most were sticking with it and hoping for a rebound in future seasons. That future has been cut short by revelations that Kevin Spacey may have made a pass at a 14-year-old actor three decades ago.
Around a dozen hours after a story about Anthony Rapp came out to accuse to Spacey of sexual wrongdoings, Netflix pulled the plug. Next season, its sixth which is currently filming, will be its last.
Netflix Pulls Plug On ‘House Of Cards’ After Season 6 After Kevin Spacey Sexual Advances Claims | Deadline
“Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey,’ said the companies in a joint statement today. “In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”
We have also heard that Netflix’s Spacey starring film Gore about the acerbic author Gore Vidal may be on the chopping block now too. The Reed Hastings run streaming service has stayed official silent on the sexual advance claims. No word yet if the NYPD are looking into the matter that occurred in their jurisdiction back in 1986 between then 14-year old Rapp and Spacey.
The two-time Academy Award winning actor used his public letter of apology to Rapp as a moment to come out as being a gay man. This was likely a strategic move, but judging by reactions from the LGBTQ community, it was the wrong move to make:

The actor apologised in a statement posted on Twitter, writing: “This story has encouraged me to address other things about my life… I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose to now live as a gay man.”
But he’s since been criticised for choosing this moment to come out – and some have accused him of using his sexuality as a shield to deflect the negative publicity the allegations have sparked.
“He doesn’t get a pass just because he’s gay,” says Josh Rivers, the newly-appointed editor of Gay Times.
“Alleged predatory behaviour is bad behaviour regardless of your sexuality.
Whatever Spacey’s future holds, it likely won’t have anything to do with Netflix. They put a ton of time, money, and reputation on the line to back the show, which received critical acclaim until last season. This hurts them, though not nearly as badly as it hurts Spacey’s career.
