Today, the President Tweeted that he would be allowing the secret John F. Kennedy assassination files to be opened. We assume he wants them to become available to the public. This would be a great thing that would go towards advancing government transparency while likely causing some controversies… if it really happens.
I don’t think it will, at least not in the way many people are reading this. Here’s his Tweet:
Subject to the receipt of further information, I will be allowing, as President, the long blocked and classified JFK FILES to be opened.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 21, 2017
He leads with the most important words: “Subject to the receipt of further information…”
He follows with the next most important word: “allowing…”
This was a Tweet inserted randomly between others that was intended to express a popular message for the press to pounce on for the next few days. If it comes to pass and we get to see a heavily redacted portion of the 3100 pages currently locked away, then I’ll be pleased depending on how much is released and how much is redacted. It’s time to see what really happened, if only to confirm or put to rest the decades of accumulated conspiracy theories.
