When leftist mainstream media shill Washington Post fails to cover up for a Democrat, you know she went too far. That’s the case for Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill who falsely invoked being away for cancer treatment to defend her vote on a bill that weakened the DEA’s ability to go after drug distributors.
She’s spearheading the efforts to repeal the bill and claimed she was unavailable for the unanimous vote that passed it originally last year. “I wasn’t here at the time,” McCaskill told CNN on October 16. “I was actually getting breast cancer treatment.”
Since there weren’t any nay votes, names weren’t recorded to show whether McCaskill was there or not, but circumstantial evidence is very damaging to McCaskill’s claims.
WaPo’s investigation demonstrated in all likelihood she was there. She told press three days prior to the vote that she was back in DC. She voted on a bill the day before. On March 17, the day the DEA bill was approved, she even appeared on the floor to make the case for approving a resolution to hold Backpage.com in contempt for refusing to cooperate with an investigation into sex trafficking on the site.
Lastly, it was shown that McCaskill participated in a Senate hearing on sudden spikes in drug prices.
The vote has reemerged into the public eye following a WaPo/60 Minutes investigation detailing the drug industry’s legislative triumph over the DEA. The piece targeted President Trump’s nominee for drug czar, Representative Tom Marino.
Trump drug czar nominee withdraws from consideration after report that he hobbled DEA war on opioids – TheBlaze
President Donald Trump tweeted Tuesday that Rep. Tom Marino (R-Pa.) has withdrawn from consideration to become the next drug czar.
“Rep. Tom Marino has informed me that he is withdrawing his name from consideration as drug czar,” Trump tweeted. “Tom is a fine man and a great Congressman!”
McCaskill is already in the midst of opposition from her own party while Republicans are gunning hard for her spot in a state that President Trump won by more than 20 points last year. She can ill afford getting 4 Pinocchios from any publications, particularly one that is so favorable for Democrats.

McCaskill’s false claim that she ‘wasn’t here’ when the DEA bill was passed – The Washington Post
On Oct. 16, she told CNN she was away that week, dealing with her breast cancer. Then, a day later, she was silent when an NPR host asserted she was absent from the Senate that day because of her health issues. She should have said she had checked her schedule and that was a mistake.
She told CNN she’d “like to believe” she would have opposed the bill and stopped it. But the reality is that she was there — and she missed the opportunity that she seeks now. She earns Four Pinocchios.
McCaskill seeks to repeal law that hampered DEA enforcement
“Media reports indicate that this law has significantly affected the government’s ability to crack down on opioid distributors that are failing to meet their obligations and endangering our communities,” McCaskill said in a statement. “I’ll be introducing legislation that repeals this law and continue my work investigating the role pharmaceutical distributors played in fueling this public health crisis.”
