Several days after news broke of Hollywood kingmaker Harvey Weinstein’s alleged sexual assault of more than a few young women over the course of his long career, liberals in the media and in Washington are finally beginning to emerge from hiding to condemn the filmmaker’s actions. It is not hard to understand their reluctance, Weinstein is, of course, one of them, a fellow media elite who has raised around 1.4 million dollars for Democratic candidates over the years.
Hillary Clinton and former President Obama, who received $17,000 and $45,000 in personal donations respectively from Harvey Weinstein, took their time but did eventually issue statements assuring their “outrage” and “disgust” for Mr. Weinstein’s alleged crimes. Saturday Night Live, who makes their living hammering conservatives over every scandal, big or small, real or imagined, went radio silent. Late night comics ignored the Weinstein story as long as they could but eventually were forced to address it, sort of. Jimmy Fallon brought up the story only to say that Weinstein “would have a future at Fox News” (referring to the sexual harassment claims against Roger Ailes, Bill O’Reilly, and Eric Bolling.) Steven Colbert took the lazier and more predictable route, comparing Weinstein to President Trump.
It is hard not to contrast the tepid, at best, condemnation of Harvey Weinstein to the all-out, total-war style excoriation of former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly who was fired this April amid allegations of sexual harassment. SNL aired a skit attacking Mr. O’Reilly the week of the embattled news man’s firing, late-night comedians, and anchors of FNC’s rival networks were happy, even giddy, to hit O’Reilly as hard as they possibly could.
Like Weinstein, was O’Reilly caught on tape assaulting a woman? No, in fact, the former anchor’s chief accuser, it turns out, was arrested by Detroit police in 2015 for giving a false report to a crime. Though Bill O’Reilly surely had an influential voice in the national political discourse, did he, like Weinstein, raise millions and donate tens of thousands of dollars to the political party of his liking? Not that we know of, in fact, Mr. O’Reilly is a registered independent.
The allegations against Harvey Weinstein dwarf the alleged offenses of Bill O’Reilly both in severity and credibility but O’Reilly, in the eyes of leftists in the media and Hollywood, committed the ultimate crime of opposing their political views. The disparity in how the political left covered these two scandals lays bare the fact that they care less about justice and the facts, and more about collecting scalps of their opponents and protecting their own, regardless of their vile, criminal behavior.
Most “Conservative” News Outlets Are on the Big Tech Teat
Not long ago, conservative media was not beholden to anyone. Today, most sites are stuck on the Big Tech gravy train.
I’ll keep this short. The rise of Pandemic Panic Theater, massive voter fraud, and other “taboo” topics have neutered a majority of conservative news sites. You’ll notice they are very careful about what topics they tackle. Sure, they’ll attack Critical Race Theory, Antifa, and the Biden-Harris regime, but you won’t see them going after George Soros, Bill Gates, the World Economic Forum, or the Deep State, among others.
The reason is simple. They are beholden to Big Tech, and Big Tech doesn’t allow certain topics to be discussed or they’ll cut you off. Far too many conservative news outlets rely on Google, Facebook, and Twitter for the bulk of their traffic. They depend on big checks from Google ads to keep the sites running. I don’t necessarily hold it against them. We all do what we need to do to survive. I just wish more would do like we have, which is to cut out Big Tech altogether.
We don’t get Google checks. We don’t have Facebook or Twitter buttons on our stories. We don’t have a YouTube Channel (banned), an Instagram profile (never made one), or a TikTok (no thanks, CCP). We’re not perfect, but we’re doing everything we can to not owe anything to anyone… other than our readers. We owe YOU the truth. We owe YOU the facts that others won’t reveal about topics that others won’t tackle. And we owe America, this great land that allows us to take hold of these opportunities.
Like I said, I don’t hold other conservative sites under too much scrutiny over their choices. It’s easy for people to point fingers when we’re not the ones paying their bills or supporting their families. I just wish there were more who would make the bold move. Today, only a handful of other major conservative news outlets have broken free from the Big Tech teat. Of course, we need help.
