As news reports continue to come in and the death toll of the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history continues to climb (current at 58 dead). We find ourselves asking many questions. Why did such a thing happen? How could we have prevented such a horrendous act against humanity? Didn’t anyone around suspected Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock, see this coming? It is too early to say what the motivations were and if Stephen Paddock was working alone and did anyone around him suspect anything.
There is one person who might have had an insight into these questions, Marilou Danley. She is believed to be the girlfriend of Stephen Paddock. Reports indicate that she was living with Paddock in Mesquite, Nevada, located approximately 80 miles Northeast of Las Vegas, near the Arizona border. The one thing that authorities seem to be certain of is that they lived together, but the nature of their relationship is still unclear. In a recent USA Today article an unnamed man that appears to be friends with Danley stated, “She had nothing to do with this psycho…The poor lady she is in the Phillippines visiting family.”
Many questions are still unanswered, but authorities have stated that Danley is considered a person of interest and is out of the country.
Earlier Monday, Mesquite Police Chief Troy Tanner says police surrounded and entered the single-family home where Paddock lived with 62-year-old Danley early Monday morning.
Authorities now say Danley is considered a person of interest and is out of the country.
Danley’s now-deleted Facebook page identified her as a “proud mom and grandma who lives life to the fullest,” according to the Express. She described herself on her LinkedIn page as a “gambling and casino professional” living in Reno, Nevada. Her LinkedIn also lists her as working as a “high limit hostess” at Club Paradise, Atlantis Casino in Reno between 2010 and 2013, but does not list another job since that year.
He says Danley was not at the house and police saw “no movement” inside before serving a search warrant at the one-story, three-bedroom home in the Sun City Mesquite retirement community, about 80 miles north of Las Vegas near the Arizona state line.
The tragedy in Las Vegas is a reminder to all of us that evil exists in the world, and the United States is not immune to it. We must remember that we live in a country that is governed by the rule of law and all people are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Marilou Danley is a person of interest and not a suspect at this time. Let us hope when authorities talk to her that she can give us helpful insight into what motivated suspected shooter, Stephen Paddock. At this time all we can do is pray.
