Netanyahu sums up Trump’s UN debut in one tweet

In a single tweet, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu summed up President Donald Trump’s rather blunt-talking speech to the United Nations.

“In over 30 years in my experience with the UN, I never heard a bolder or more courageous speech,” Netanyahu tweeted. He followed up with two more tweets. “President Trump spoke the truth about the great dangers facing our world and issued a powerful call to confront them in order to ensure the future of humanity.”

This is high praise indeed from the man who stood at the same podium and used a poster to show how close Iran was to producing an atomic bomb. It takes courage to speak to the world in black and white. It takes courage to praise the Chinese for helping and call them out for enabling North Korea in the same speech. It takes courage to call socialism and communism what they are: failed experiments that lead to suffering, poverty and despotism. It takes courage to stand before the leaders of the world and tell them they’re not doing enough–not caring enough–for the people of their own nations.

Barack Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize for nothing more than his skin color and for telling the same group of leaders that they need to pay more attention to issues like climate change. He told them they need to confront the same dangers our country has faced since President Bill Clinton was in office, but have now become more challenging and pronounced. Donald Trump didn’t give them shade by using diplomatic language or euphemisms.

Best of all, Trump avoided his tendency toward self-promotion and bombast. If only he could be like that all the time–we can dream.
