‘If there’s not a wall, we’re doing nothing,’ said Donald Trump

The president made it very clear that the wall is central to his immigration plan. He told reporters he wont “do anything” regarding DACA unless the wall is built at some point in the future. This is actually a valid point; one that’s been made for decades since President Reagan’s immigration reform plan. Congress has always had on its plate some kind of border control to keep undesirables out while moving forward with real immigration policy. But Congress has done nothing for decades.

Trump: “If there’s not a wall, we’re doing nothing” – Axios“There was no deal and they didn’t say they had a deal. in fact they just put out a statement and they didnt say that at all”We’ll only do it if we get extreme security, not only surveillance but everything that goes with surveillance. If there’s not a wall, we’re doing nothing.”

Trump: “No Deal Was Made Last Night On DACA… The Wall Will Be Built” | Tyler Durden, Zero Hedge“No deal was made last night on DACA. Massive border security would have to be agreed to in exchange for consent. Would be subject to vote. The WALL, which is already under construction in the form of new renovation of old and existing fences and walls, will continue to be built.”

Trump: ‘If I don’t get the wall, then we will become the obstructionists’ |Mallory Shelbourne, TheHill“At some point, they’re going to have to — they cannot obstruct the wall. The wall to me is vital. If I don’t get the wall, then we will become the obstructionists.”

D’Souza Dissects Trump’s Border Wall May Be ‘Symbolic’ | Nick Givas, The Daily Caller“At the end of the day Trump may be moving to a position in which he says that the wall is symbolic,” D’Souza told Fox News. “In other words, these are the five ways we are going to be enforcing immigration. These are the ways we’re going to be securing our border — I have an electronic wall, I have 10 different ways to check identities. I have all kinds of enforcement within the country. It may be that there’s a way to work this out that doesn’t require a wall.”

Trump’s supporters are concerned. James Woods probably had the best, simplest take, and likely closest to the truth.

Final Thoughts

Trump campaigned on having a wall. The wall is integral to his presidency. If Trump gives up on the border wall, even his staunchest supporters will have trouble defending that move. Also, Congress, without Trump pushing the wall, will do nothing, as they have for nearly 30 years. If Trump is serious, he’ll build that wall.
