A few years ago when my youngest was under 2 years old, I went to pick him up from his daycare late in the day. He ran to me as usual and I picked him up. I quickly noticed human bite marks on his arm. I calmly asked the teacher what happened and she informed me, clearly nervous about my potential reaction, that another child had bit my son. Still calm, I asked why. The teacher informed me that my son had pushed the other child down and took his toy.
The teacher was clearly afraid I would go off on them about it protecting my kid from the “bully,” and, as I found out later, that’s because that is the normal reaction of parents. I simply looked at my son and said, “I’d have bit you too!” My son was actually the one being a brat, and he got bitten for it. Served him right.
Last week, Dave Urbanski of The Blaze reported about 17-year-old Danta Wright laughing in court as his murder victim’s mother tearfully tried to read her statement to the court. The sad disregard for life and lack of empathy for this mother who’s life he destroyed is bad enough. What makes ME crazy is that his mother decided to make excuses for him, saying that his laughing is part of his “mental illness.”
Mental illness? Ok, I might buy that. But if he was that mentally ill, why was he out roaming the streets instead of home? Where were YOU mom? Why was he in a position to kill someone?
Back in 2015, a young man named Adric White held up a Family Dollar store. A licensed concealed handgun holder walked in on the armed robbery and shot White, defending the lives of the people White was threatening. This was the 2nd armed robbery for White in a month. When it was over, White’s family said the CHL holder should have “minded his own business.”
Minded his own business? Really? Their son held up a store at gunpoint and their response was that the hero of this story should have “minded his own business?”
Guess what? If they had done a better job raising this young man, the hero COULD have minded his own business, which I’m certain he would have rather done anyway.
Michael Brown is another example. His thug mother has been in trouble with the law plenty, and naturally she made the cop her son viciously attacked after robbing a convenience store out to be the bad guy instead of recognizing her son as the thug he was.
Hey, parents! Take some responsibility for your own actions and recognize your children make mistakes too. When they do, chastise them accordingly. When you don’t, they end up becoming a Michael Brown or a Danta Wright!
I know some people will think this is a racial or economic issue, but let me point out to you all the white, middle to upper-class kids joining Antifa and causing mayhem in the name of imagined injuries. Thugs are thugs, no matter what their racial or economic background.
Discipline your children! That’s part of parenting. Too many people today aren’t interested in parenting, just in breeding. Parenting in today’s me-centric culture is ugly and leads to people who have no place in a civilized society. Don’t like it? Too bad. The truth doesn’t stop being the truth because it hurts your feelings or those of the kids you failed to discipline growing up.
I refuse to let my kids turn into thugs like Antifa or your garden variety criminal. It will be interesting to see in 15 years if those parents who used to get mad at the teachers at my son’s school over the fact that their kids were bullies, will be proud of what their kids have become.
Covid variant BA.5 is spreading. It appears milder but much more contagious and evades natural immunity. Best to boost your immune system with new Z-Dtox and Z-Stack nutraceuticals from our dear friend, the late Dr. Vladimir Zelenko.
Thank you. I’m a Mom, Grandma and high school teacher. I’m not quite sure what is happening out there, but we have a current generation of students who are less confident, less responsible and less ambitious than any I’ve seen in over 20 years of teaching.
Example: In an AP Studio class I was teaching I pushed a variety of different materials and approaches knowing that having experience in a wide range would make students more employable. Two different sets of parents took me to task for their students’ failures to turn in ANY work. One girl only wanted to do cartoons-and not original cartoons, the other one had an inflated sense of her own importance. With the first parents I stressed that I was trying to help the student adapt by having a range of abilities. The mother then told me in no uncertain terms that her child was raised to start at the top and that she was going to succeed by doing the same unfinished cartoons she had been turning in as project. Even my very liberals and normally reticent student teacher was aghast. It seems nobody is expected to pay their dues anymore.
Even marginal students have parents filling them daily with affirmations of their abilities. And heaven help the teacher who dares question the work ethic of a student because outside of school is time for everything except studying. No wonder Russian and Chinese kids are kicking ours butts.
Nothing like good old fashioned personal responsibility when it comes to issues like this, Ben. When you don’t correct the child when they are young & teach them right from wrong then you end up with a bunch of entitled hellions. Well written & cosigned!!!
On #LivePD last night, there was a mother of an 11 year old and a 13 year old who probably had spoiled them all their lives. Now that they are teenagers, she can’t do anything with them so when they got into an argument over a bracelet, she called the police. That’s our America now!
