It’s all out war, so PLEASE take a vacation

Tomorrow, President Trump starts a vacation at his golf resort in Bedminster, NJ. Washington is supposed to be in summer doldrums, but not this administration. The Trump administration, led by the man who vacations at places bearing his own name, is at war.

With whom, you ask? It might be easier to list those he’s not at war with, but I’ll take up the tedious task of listing the warring parties.

Congress.

And Congress had made Trump be at war with the Russians, who are warring with him even if he doesn’t war back.

Republicans.

The media.

He’s always at war with them, but then he has an obsessive/compulsive need to be in the press, so it’s more a frenemy thing.

Leaks. (Except when they are his leaks.)

The media will print any dang thing they get their hands on. They’ll expose secrets, embarrass foreign leaders, or jeopardize lives in the name of “journalism.” I use the scare-quotes because much of the stuff they’re printing isn’t news. It’s anonymous, hearsay stories from “people with knowledge of” events.

The Washington Post leaked calls to Mexican and Australian leaders. From Axios:

The calls remain classified, so the fact that the transcripts made it to the Post is a serious issue. Both documents include notes that the transcripts had been reviewed by Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg Jr., the chief of staff for the National Security Council.

The White House.

He’s been accused of calling it a dump. He’s used passive-aggressive means to get senior staff to quit (instead of just firing them). He’s on his second chief of staff, second spokesperson, about to be his third communications chief, Lord-knows how many cycles of the National Security Council. And all before his first summer vacation.

Add to all that China, North Korea, Iran, Syria, and the federal courts.

Trump is at war, and the best thing he’s done is bring in a general to fight it for him.

The best thing the president can do right now is take that 17-day vacation. He should play golf, eat steak, hang out with his grandkids, and stay away from Twitter. Even wars have lulls, and the country needs one.

Serial entrepreneur. Faith, family, federal republic. One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
