Canadian writer and women’s rights activist Meghan Murphy is as progressive as they come. One might look at her ideology, compare it to what I espouse, and assume we’re essentially opposed. After all, she has been an outspoken opponent to many conservative issues and has generally sided with the far left on all but one: militant gender identity.
On that issue, we are generally in agreement.
One issue does not make for allies, but there’s another circumstance based on our shared issue that forces me to defend her. She was recently suspended from Twitter, again, for expressing her beliefs regarding gender identity. Here is the now-invisible Tweet she sent that Twitter deemed inappropriate. They locked her out of her account until she willingly deleted it.
This is f***ing bulls**t @twitter. I’m not allowed to say that men aren’t women or ask questions about the notion of transgenderism at all anymore? That a multi billion dollar company is censoring BASIC FACTS and silencing people who ask questions about this dogma is INSANE
Later, she updated her followers with a long rant that, as of Saturday, got her officially suspended.
Hi everyone! I’ve been locked out of Twitter since Monday morning. They demanded I remove the viral tweet complaining about having been locked out last week for saying that men aren’t women. The tweet was at like 20, 000 likes so I guess they didn’t like that.
In any case, I would like to announce that I’ve changed my mind about some things. Brace yourselves. I am tired of the ‘right=bad’/’left=good’ dichotomy. Things are not as simple as that. It’s not ‘good’ to limit ourselves to engaging only with those we already agree with. It is intellectually boring and will not encourage the development of good, coherent, evidence-based ideas, politics, and policies.
Right wing media has been the only media to cover Twitter’s attempts to silence me, and has been the only media to reach out to me. Mainstream, liberal, progressive media continues to refuse to even acknowledge that feminists have a critique of transgender ideology.
In Canada, at least, the media and, more broadly, progressives/the left refuse to say a word about the harassment, bullying, silencing, and threats against those of us who do speak out. The cowardice is appalling.
I am not abandoning my principles, but what I will grant ‘the right’ (or ‘free speechers,’ or whatever you want to call them) is that at least they are interested in engaging with those they may disagree with on various issues. The left, on the other hand, wants an echo chamber. It’s not only boring, but it’s unproductive. How tf are you going to get anywhere by ignoring what so many in the world think and believe? Or by simply vilifying those who don’t toe the line?
It’s great that she acknowledged the adherence to the truth that conservative news outlets and free speech advocates practice, but even if she didn’t, we need to support her. Ideological differences are the foundation for discourse that can lead to positive change in this world. I disagree with many of the ideas she supports, but I would never support quashing those ideas for the sake of winning an argument.
Even dangerous ideas are better debated in the open rather than hidden away through censorship. If anything, the most dangerous ideas are much easier to counter when they’re in the open. Murphy’s ideas are far from dangerous. I don’t have to agree with all of them to defend her right to express them.
The same holds true for Laura Loomer. The other day, she was permanently suspended from Twitter. I don’t agree with all of her ideas either, and I especially find the way she expresses those ideas to often be counterproductive to her own causes. But like Murphy, she shouldn’t have been censored.
In the battlefield of public opinion, conservatives and progressives fight for hearts and minds. We cannot look away when an ideological opponent is stifled by draconian censorship. especially when they speak the truth as Meghan Murphy did.
Covid variant BA.5 is spreading. It appears milder but much more contagious and evades natural immunity. Best to boost your immune system with new Z-Dtox and Z-Stack nutraceuticals from our dear friend, the late Dr. Vladimir Zelenko.
Hilarious. This chick was one wanting to silence other people before….now shes a free speech legend. Too funny.
This is the lawsuit. Read it. Meghan Murphy used the wrong pronoun in reference to Jonathan Yaniv, or JY. Jonathan Yaniv is the Canadian transwoman who filed 16 human rights complaints against women who refused to do a Brazilian wax on him. A Brazilian wax involves waxing the genitals, and JY is definitely a fully intact male. He appears to have some rather strange interests. Google “Jonathan Yaniv” and tampons and 10 year old girls”.
The complaint states,
“On November 23, 2018, Twitter informed Murphy via private email that she was being
permanently suspended based on a November 8, 2018 Tweet where Murphy wrote “Yeeeah it’s him” over an embedded image of Yaniv’s public Google review of a waxing salon that Yaniv five months earlier using the name “Jonathan Yaniv” and a photo where Yaniv appears clearly to be a man. Twitter’s claim that Murphy “misgendered” Yaniv by Tweeting “Yeeeah it’s him” over an image of Yaniv’s recent Google review in which Yaniv identified using a male name and a male appearing photo was frivolous.”
