Three suicide bombers took the lives of at least 30 Nigerians watching a football on television at a viewing hall in Konduga, Borno State, Nigeria. The terrorists, which included two women, were part of the Boko Haram radical Islamic terrorism organization that plagues much of Africa.
As usual, this tragic event is being under-reported by American mainstream media. You won’t find it prominently on most major news aggregators. Fox News covered it well, but CNN, NY Times, and Washington Post have mentions of the attack not visible on the front page of their websites.
There are two reasons for the media silence. The first is the area of the attack. Tragic stories in Africa are not given nearly the same attention they’d get if the attacks were committed in other areas of the world. Then, there’s the Islamic terrorism component, something that breaks from progressive mainstream media’s narrative so it gets pushed down on the page for as long as possible, sometimes indefinitely.
Twitter, for all its shortcomings, is good at covering such incidents:
At least 30 killed in a triple suicide bombing in Nigeria
Considering the death toll, this would be huge news if it happened on any other continent or if it was committed by any other people group. Islamic terrorism in Africa doesn’t get much attention from mainstream media.
