Former counterintelligence agent Monica Elfriede Witt charged for allegedly conspiring with Iran

Former counterintelligence agent Monica Elfriede Witt charged for allegedly conspiring with Iran

What motivates people to defect from the United States to work with nations opposed to our way of life? We may never know what Monica Elfriede Witt was thinking when she defected to Iran in 2013, but one thing is certain. If the charges against her are true, her treachery may have put American lives in danger.

Though she defected in 2013, it’s unclear when her loyalty shifted away from the United States. She ended her official and contractor duties in 2010 after serving in a counterintelligence role since 1997, but it’s possible she was operating covertly even after that point. It’s conspicuous that a trip to Iran in 2012 was where she made contact for arrangements to move her to Iran permanently.

“The alleged actions of Monica Witt in assisting a hostile nation are a betrayal of our nation’s security, our military, and the American people,” said Special Agent Terry Phillips of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations. “While violations like this are extremely rare, her actions as alleged are an affront to all who have served our great nation.”

My Take

This is thankfully quite rare in the United States today… or at least we hope. Perhaps it should concern us that we’re just now hearing about her even though she defected nearly six years ago. No, I don’t expect the intelligence community to reveal their leaks while in the middle of an investigation, but it still seems a bit too long in the modern era for charges to be filed after it seemed pretty clear she had access to sensitive data and her defection was made known when it happened.

There’s no way to prevent every single potential spy or defector from infiltrating our intelligence services or sharing information with our enemies. If someone wants in, they can go through the long process of participating, pretending to be loyal while hiding their true feelings. Then, there’s the risk of radicalization; those exposed to the enemy may grow sympathetic to them over time.

It may be very scary to think someone with access to sensitive information, including the identities of current operatives, could be working with the enemy. Thankfully, these cases seem to happen less frequently in America than in other nations.

Videos show conservative beaten on UC Berkeley campus Please help identify the assaulter

Being conservative on college campuses in America can be challenging. It seems that conservatism is more than just a challenge at UC Berkeley. It can be downright dangerous.

Editor’s Note: The videos released publicly do not show all of the events that transpired before the alleged assault. Just as we called for judgment to be held when the initial Covington Catholic School videos were released, so too do we believe we shouldn’t jump to absolute conclusions until law enforcement releases official information. With that said, yes, these videos are pretty darn compelling against the perpetrator.

Brad Devlin, former President of Berkeley College Republicans, posted a series of Tweets that seem to detail the events surrounding the alleged assault as well as video of the assault itself. There’s also an image of the alleged perpetrator. Calls have been made by officials and those associated with the victim to help identify him.

If this turns out to be an accurate depiction of events, one can easily see this as a hate crime.

The unhinged nature of extremists leads to the level of hatred that gives us incidents like these. While they happen from both sides of the political aisle, it seems as if the left has been growing increasingly violent in recent months.

Differences in political opinion shouldn’t lead to violence.

This story is developing. We will update as more information comes in. Campus Reform is also covering this closely as the victim was closely associated with them.

VIDEO: Conservative suffers blow to the face at Berkeley

https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=11898In other footage obtained by Campus Reform, another person, also unidentified, approached the students, claiming they were “encouraging violence.” Williams told Campus Reform that as the physical confrontations took place, a number of onlookers simply watched.“Some students nearby tabling were laughing, even one guy was smiling while I was being attacked and trying to hand me his flyer as a joke,” the alleged victim said. “The idea is free speech has consequences…. which include you getting assaulted if they find you promoting ideas others don’t agree with.”A student who asked to remain anonymous and was at the scene after the alleged victim got punched said someone also tore apart their signs.“As I approached the table I could see our TPUSA pins all over the floor, our signs were torn apart, Hayden’s eye was red, and his nose was bleeding,” the student told Campus Reform.Dan Mogulof, assistant vice chancellor for the Office of Communications and Public Affairs for UC-Berkeley told Campus Reform that while he has not seen confirmation of the assault, he condemns the behavior.

How do you trigger certain college students? Just be a conservative on campus and you may get attacked. Share the image of this guy and help find him before he assaults someone else.

Mashup video of Jussie Smollett and Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson tells a sad story

Mashup video of Jussie Smollett and Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson tells a sad story

Mashup videos are usually intended to be funny. There’s nothing funny about the outrageous alleged actions taken by actor Jussie Smollett in his attempt to garner victim status and increase his pay for the show Empire.

According to police, Smollett first tried to gain sympathy by mailing a letter to the studio threatening himself with a “ransom” to keep him safe. When that didn’t get him the instant status of victimhood through which he could parlay higher pay from the studio, he allegedly paid $3500 to orchestrate a hate-crime stunt that drew so much sympathy from the gullible left that it’s hard to find anything that compares. The outpouring of support from Hollywood, leftist politicians, and mainstream media was immediate and unquestioning.

They were blinded by a desire for the hate they believe exists among supporters for President Trump to actually manifest in a tangible hate crime against a beloved gay black actor. This blinding prevented them from calling into question the inconsistencies and outrageous accusations made by Smollett. All they heard was “bigoted Trump supporters attacked a minority” and the latched onto it as their gospel truth.

Support independent journalism.

It’s very impressive to hear the words of Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson who is clearly outraged by the hoax itself. He is proud of the progress he’s made in Chicago and to falsely attack the city over a desire for more money rightly disgusts the public servant.

This isn’t just a condemnation against Hollywood or the detachment so many actors have with reality. It’s a condemnation on the leftist ideology that has made victimhood a badge of honor to be sought at all costs.

Church administrator and wife, David and Connie Reiter, accused of stealing $1.2 million for personal gain

Church administrator and wife David and Connie Reiter accused of stealing 12 million for personal ga

The former church administrator for Westminster Presbyterian Church in Upper St. Clair township in Pennsylvania has been arrested along with his wife for allegedly stealing $1.2 million of church funds over a 17-year period.

David Reiter, 50, has been charged with theft, forgery and receiving stolen property, while his wife Connie, 44, faces two counts of receiving stolen property, according to Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office. The couple allegedly faked an auditor and manipulated church accounting records in order to have money for vacations, sporting events, and other personal benefits.

My Take

Churches and other religious institutions have a hard enough time fighting corruption outside of their congregations. When the corruption is happening from within, it not only stings even more for the church body but also adds to the fodder for anti-Christian voices to use in their calls for changes.

Already on social media, the story is getting attention as another example of why churches should be taxed. Mixed into the discussion are calls of hypocrisy and bad faith within the faith itself.

In these times, it’s important to expose those who use their positions in church or their claimed faith as reasons to commit crimes. Whether it’s simple stealing, sex abuse, or any number of other crimes associated with “religious” people, the necessity to live as an example to the world has never been greater.

The scoffers will scoff whether they’re given reason to or not. But when the attacks are unjustified, their scoffing is less effective. This is why we need to cleanse the church of people like the Reiters if they did, indeed, do as charged.
