Update: Nope.
Original story:
Washington DC lives under a belief that perceptions are everything. We’ll often hear more about the “optics” of something rather than the substance behind it. That’s the case with the government shutdown.
On merits of the border crisis alone, border wall funding seems like the appropriate and logical response. But it’s the wedge the Democrats have placed at the door to funding the government and they’re unwilling to remove it. Why? Because of optics.
As noted in The Atlantic, one Democratic House aide said the truth about optics versus reality:
“While it may be horrible for the country,” she said of the shutdown, “it’s fine for the party.”
I will be making a major announcement concerning the Humanitarian Crisis on our Southern Border, and the Shutdown, tomorrow afternoon at 3 P.M., live from the @WhiteHouse.

If it is, indeed, a declaration of a national emergency, then it’s a major flip-flop from just earlier in the morning. Today, he declared the Republican Party was unified and would not “cave” on border security, implying they weren’t going to give in to Democrats’ demands to fund the government without the border wall funding.
Never seen the Republican Party so unified. No “Cave” on the issue of Border and National Security. A beautiful thing to see, especially when you hear the new rhetoric spewing from the mouths of the Democrats who talk Open Border, High Taxes and Crime. Stop Criminals & Drugs now!

I’ve been critical of declaring a national emergency in order to fund the border wall because doing so will prevent the wall from actually being funded for a very long time. By making it an executive action rather than a legislative one, it opens the funding up to legal challenges that will wrap the border wall in red tape until after the 2020 election. If he doesn’t win the election, chances are strong the declaration will be reversed by his successor and the border wall funding will be nullified.
As I noted on Twitter:
But the blame would not be 100% on the President. Congress under GOP controlled punted in hopes not fighting for the wall before the midterms would help them win. It was a miscalculation of epic proportions. They squandered their power as they're wont to do.

For the sake of hurting Trump, the Democrats and MSM willfully manipulated the masses into believing falsehoods such as walls are ineffective, walls are racist, and walls are immoral. They may get their pyrrhic victory, but they've shifted society's perspectives to the illogical.

To Tweet the GOP won’t “cave” in the morning and then follow up by teasing a “major announcement” in the afternoon is hopefully a sign an agreement has been reached with Congress. If it’s a declaration of a national emergency, America loses.
Here’s up-to-the-moment coverage through a Twitter Moment:
