As the government shutdown continues, most mainstream media news outlets are portraying it as an absolute crisis. Food is getting tainted. Parks are turning into garbage heaps. Farmers are going broke. It’s complete pandemonium in America… at least that’s the narrative they’re trying to sell us.
What’s the truth. Other than the 800,000 employees who are having to wait for their paychecks, the actual effects of the shutdown have been minimal in the lives of the vast majority of Americans. Is government non-essential in many ways? According to John Stossel, yes it is.
“We need some government but most of life, the best of life, goes on without government, much of it in spite of government,” Stossel said.
Many of those who are not getting their paychecks yet are in dire straits. By no means would we suggest there’s no effect to the shutdown, nor do we want to see it continue any more than it should. But the Armageddon we were promised by Democrats and media hasn’t materialized for most Americans.
Perhaps we should use this shutdown to shine a light on the fact that much of what government does is neither effective nor necessary. The private sector can and should be much more involved in the day-to-day operations of our nation. Where the federal government exerts its will, we invariably get worse results than we would have had they left it up to the state or local governments or the private sector.
When the shutdown ends and the dust settles, life will go back to normal for those who are affected. For the rest of us, which is a huge majority of the population, nothing will change just as nothing has changed for us while the shutdown is happening.
Covid variant BA.5 is spreading. It appears milder but much more contagious and evades natural immunity. Best to boost your immune system with new Z-Dtox and Z-Stack nutraceuticals from our dear friend, the late Dr. Vladimir Zelenko.
